Anyone know when the major manufacturers release their new lines of receivers. I want to update so I want to get the lastest.

I bought an Integra DTR 40.2 in March 2011, in May the .3 series came out. But different manufactuers might have different release dates.

Funny, I was wondering the same thing as the OP. I think it's typically around April to June when they start coming out.

I'm more than likely looking to get an Onkyo or a Denon this year.

Anyone have any idea on what new features we might expect this year?

Thanks

Spring, starting with the lowest end first. Onkyo usually starts it around April or so. High end stuff usually around July or August, and the flagship stuff in early fall.

If there's something you really want, now is the time to get it, as everything this year is out, and the sales are usually good. Stuff just released is a lot closer to MSRP, because everyone then rushes to buy it.

Might there be a newer HDMI version out this year?

Probably not for most of 2012, and definitely not in time for the manufacturers to incorporate it in the next model year. They just did a minor update in October (HDMI 1.4b.)

Any way, such as a splitter where I can use my Pioneer VSX1018 with 3D video and HDMI

So 1.4b will be in this years models? Seems as though most receivers I've looked at for this year are as high as 1.4a. I don't recall seeing any 1.4b's.

2011 or 2012? 2012s aren't out yet, won't be until Spring at the earliest. I don't know if that's enough time for 1.4b to be incorporated. I guess it depends on the hardware and firmware availability and when the designs were finalized.

2011 are still 1.4a, as by the time 1.4b was announced everything was already in production. Keep in mind when I said "they" did a minor update, I meant the HDMI Forum.

HDMI 1.5whatever is probably 2013 or later.

Thanks for the info.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

If (link to) this news item (titled "New HDMI 2.0 Standard in 2012!") is correct, then HDMI.org is taking another shot at 'improving things' again next year...?!

There are some new HDMI features to be shown @ CES 2012 in Las Vegas, 2nd week of January.
These are:
1. InstaPrevue Technology
Enables live picture-in-picture previews of video sources connected via HDMI inputs. Connected video sources including Blu-ray Disc players, game consoles, settop boxes, and MHL-enabled tablets and smartphones. The technology makes it unnecessary for consumers to choose HDMI-1, HDMI-2, HDMI-3 or HMDI-4 inputs through a text-based menu if they want to switch among video sources. So now one can preview an HDMI port without switching the input source.

2. HDMI ports with Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) Capability
Now one can connect an MHL-compatible smartphone or tablet to an MHL-capable AV receiver or directly to an MHL-capable TV, they can stream both 1080p HD video and 7.1-channel surround sound from the mobile device to their home theater system. Also the HDMI port of the AV receiver will charge the portable device, and consumers will be able to use their TV or AVR remote to control the playback of content streamed from their MHL-enabled mobile device.

For AVRs; Onkyo and 3 other AVR brands. For flat panel displays; Samsung, will be demoing MHL capability, already available are some some Samsung phones that include MHL capability. AVRs availability with InstaPreVue & MHL technologies are scheduled to ship in June-2012..

Just my $0.02...
