The Grove Theater and Basement Build - Page 33

No sweat. Here is how I look at things. While I was involved with my build I had so many people help with info, suggestions, guidance, advice and even free construction/HT stuff. Now I have a chance to "Pay if forward" on occasion so I take the opportunity to do so when I can. You are very welcome, and I'm happy to do it. I'm glad it worked!

As for the flat? No worries there either, that stuff just happens. I had it changed in a jiffy. In my 42 years here on this good old earth I have changed 50-60 flats so I almost have it down to a science now. tongue.gif

Thanks for the demo. I am always happy to see and hear others theaters. You have a great space and I love the columns and the LED lighting very slick indeed. As I have found in my travels the pictures posted of peoples spaces don't actually do the space justice. I would love to come back and see the finished product. The image the JVC throws is top notch and the subs definitely do make an impact and look cool to boot. I think that once every thing is competed and you get everything dialed in it will only get better. Hopefully we did not irritate the Mrs too much. biggrin.gif

It was great to meet you as well and if you need anything else at all let me know and I will do my best to help you out.

Regards,

RTROSE

Vanice, I LOVE the LED lights around the column I wish I had thought of that before I put up all of the dry wall. Now it would be a little difficult (but not impossible) to do that to my room. Keep up the great work, I enjoy watching your build.

Again, very much appreciated. Definitely looking forward to getting the projector and the sound dialed in. Only one more column to go before I can start on the wall panels which means wall treatments! cool.gif So true about the LED lighting. My point and shoot just doesn't do it justice. Hopefully at some point I can get someone with a good camera in there to take some quality pics. You're welcome back any time.

A snack and she was fine. tongue.gif She informed me that we had the couch above the theater rocking. Wish I could find a way to lessen the virbration transmitted to the first floor.

Haven't stopped in this thread for a while but I'm impressed. Clearly some things I need to study some more on those tricked out columns. Nice Job.

Is there anything besides the original flick? Was my favorite as well until the past 7 or 8 years. Definitely still in my top 10.

It was a good game. Kinda wish the 49ers would have pulled out the comeback but I was ok either way. Congrats:D on the win.

Thanks blynk! Do you have a build thread somewhere? If you are putting any treatments on the walls I think you could still run the wires needed fairly easily. I ran mine through the blocking that I put on the wall for the fabric treatments and the power supplies are behind the AT screen. Will do, I'll try and keep the pictures coming.

Thanks BIG! I'm really happy with how they are turning out. The middle speaker section will probably be the last part that I build so it may be a while before the true look of the columns are realized. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Last column installed this past weekend. biggrin.gif I was also able to install the LED lights in the soffit tray. Turned out really well. Will try and get some updated pics posted sometime this week.

Finally took some time to go down and snap a few pics.

A look at the front...

The entry...

The back...

And the far wall as you walk in...

Here is how the LED strips are installed in the light tray. I added plastic corner bead to create a ledge to set the LED strips on. I have not fastened them down yet but will before I call them done.

The lights are combining to really give off a nice glow in the room with the lights off. Once I finish the last two columns I won't need the can lights anymore except for working or cleaning. The LEDs give off that much light. I don't thing it really comes through with my point and shoot camera.

Looks great. The blue LED really seems to light up the room - in some pics it seems to cast a blue tint onto the entire ceiling.

Mmmm...pictures...

Love how those LED's look Vanice, especially the light tray. Nice even glow. Perfect!

Thanks 235. They really do put out a lot of light. I was pleasantly surprised. It does somewhat throw light from one side of the room to the other. Even more so in person. I raised them as high as I could to try and get as much spill onto the ceiling as possible. Really happy with how the soffit lights turned out.

Thanks GWCR. I still have a little tweeking to do on the soffit lights before I call them complete but for them just sitting up there they look really good. Just need to get my controllers organized so I can adjust the various strands I have now without having to shoot the remote at 3 or 4 different areas. rolleyes.gif

Vanice nice work with the LEDs they look impressive.
Quick question: I think you mentioned this before but I could not find it. How wide is your screen and how far back is your projector?

I am looking at a 120" wide screen and everything tells me it needs to be 18 ft back so I was checking to see if that is correct.

Thanks

Thanks blynk. The screen is 130" wide 2.35:1. The projector lens is approx. 15'-8" from the screen.

.....

blynk, how did you come up with 18'? Assuming you're using a 2.35 aspect ratio, you should be looking at something like 12' to put you at 1.2 times the screen width.

I think he's talking about projector distance, not seating distance.

I'm at just over 16' for a 120" 2.35:1 screen

Oh! Yeah, that makes more sense smile.gif

I appreciate the compliment JPA.

My projector location had me a little worried as I was on the lower end of the range for distance from the screen. I held my breath as I was getting it set up the first time but ended up having plenty of room to adjust. Blynk, not sure if you are going with a JVC as well but if you need me to check anything for you let me know.

Great job on the LEDs. You sure got a nice even light distribution on the ceiling. For your pics, were the LEDs on full brightness?
