The implications of using HDMI hookup for music

This is a basic question that I can't phrase properly to get AVS (or google) to cough up an answer I really understand. If it's been done to death, just send me the links:

Yes or no: if I use HDMI to connect a universal player to my receiver, does it matter what sort of DAC is inside the player?

No, it does not matter.

Nope, just transporting digitally at that point. The receiver/pre-pro/ etc... now bears that burden.

Only analog outputs of a player use the inboard DAC. All digital outputs - coax, optical, HDMI, and USB will bypass the DAC.

All you are doing here is bypassing the internal dac's of your player and using an upstream components DAC's. Without knowing what that component is, you might as well just tell us that chocolate tastes good to you.
