Need help with viewing 3D content from DirectV

My DirecTV receiver is HR24. Output is HDMI to Onkyo Rcvr which is not 3D ready. TV is Panny 50ST30 which is 3D ready. Panny 3D bluray player is connected to TV directly via HDMI with optical audio to Onkyo Rcvr .

Whenever I try to view a 3D channel , the message I get is that my TV is not 3D ready .

I then manually invoke 3D mode and select /2 SBS but it still wont work.

a) Maybe I have the 3D format wrong?

b) Is it because the 3D handshake does not work with non 3D receivers? I can play Bluray 3d with no problems and also 1/2 SBS movies via the WDTV live poses no problems.

If I need a direct HDMI connection to the TV from the HR24 then I am in a pickle as my TV has only 2 HDMI inputs. Can I add HDMI switch ? ie multiple inputs with one output? Any recommended ones?

Suggestions needed...Thanks

You can't run the HR24 through a non 3d receiver for 3D. Frame Packed, SbS, and T/B all require HDMI 1.4

So can I use a HDMI switch like this one : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=5336055023-20 between the TV and HR24?

ie input is HR24 and Onkyo monitor out , output direct to TV Audio from HR24 to Onkyo via coax digital?

You might do a search of the forum to see if anyone has used it. D* is finicky. In theory it should work. HAve you considered upgrading your AVR?

I am trying to do this with as little cost as possible since there is very little 3D content from DirectV anyway. I can easily make it work if I disconnect the HDMI cable going to the bluray player and connecting it to the HR24 but it's not so easy to accomplish as all the components are in a cabinet .

Problem solved.....I found I had a third HDMI input (without audio return) at the side of the TV near the USB ports .

Works like a charm. Still working out small issues like auto muting the TV when I am using the coax audio signal to the Onkyo AVR , then unmuting the TV when reverting to component video mode for the wife.

Getting Sony 55HX750 3d ready tv real soon. called directv-they said my Hr22-100 receiver would handle 3d but not my 2 HR20-700 would not. Does anyone know this to be true? The HR22-100 was manufactured in 2007!
