NBC Sports Network HD (ex-Versus HD)

Noticed before the name change to NBC Sports Network on January 2nd, the NHL on Versus has a new score bar.

The NHL on NBC Sports logo on the right is gone.
The annoying dark mesh pattern is gone from the top of the screen.

same problem espn has for nfl/nba - scorebar way too far from edge

(at least at the top its covering the crowd most of the time)
I wonder if nbc will use the new graphics on nfl wild card and/or super bowl?

I guess that depends on what type of HDTV you have. On my LCD TV it's too low but on my CRT HDTV it's just right.

Yes, they have been slowly making changes for the last month or more.

Consider yourself lucky to get in Versus in widescreen and HD. Some of us only get it in SD 4:3. Let's just say Versus doesn't get watched much in my household. Too bad lost ratings for them.

Actually we've been aksed MANY times and they continue to ask. So no. But maybe next time I wil say yes. Oh and Mr Smart guy maybe there are Nielsen families that share my attitude about SD. I'm 100% sure I am not the only one that refuses to watch SD on their HDTV.

also I'm not completely sure why you place the blame on Versus when your TV provider doesn't carry their channel in HD

In the past, they waited until the Super Bowl to roll out the new graphics.

It's still too big and why do all these bars have to have some stupid futuristic mechanical end cap? What dork said, "You know what would make it feel like the future? Lets make the score banner look like a robots penis!"

In this case, given the NBC Sports Network launch on Jan. 2, I would expect it for the playoffs.

Maybe even a slim chance for the Jan. 1 SNF, but I doubt it.

It looks like the one CSN has been using for the past year or so. Clearly, they are looking to have the same look over the spoerts nets. Now, I wish they would do something about that awful snf scorebar.
Raise it up on the screen a bit and it will be just right...
I assume this thread is okay to discuss the new NBC Sports Network. I've been flipping between NBC Sports Talk and some of the other games on today. I am struck by the lack of graphics. No run down. No lower thirds. Just the ticker.

I realize ESPN over-does it with graphics on the screen, but honestly, they could use more cues on this show. Maybe they didn't have any prepared because they weren't anticipating the two hour delay for the Winter Classic? Seems unlikely. I don't watch FNIA so maybe this is how they do things at NBC.

EDIT: And as soon as I say that, now there's a lower third. Maybe it was just first day kinks.

I much prefer the new graphics over the old ones at least.

I like how for all sporting events the score bar is off the bottom of screen.

The bug logo used for the racing event was
.
The size was to big and it just takes up to much space.
The feathers on the peacock were animated changing colors and it was annoying.

As a bug I like the stacked logo better.
I noticed the bug was WAY too large on whatever racing thing they just showed.

I also noticed though that during the "Cold War on Ice" documentary they premiered did not have ANY bug at all, which I was pleasantly surprised by.

I'm hoping they don't use a bug on the next episode of "NHL 36" either, and I hope that when they do use a bug, they used the stacked version, it looks ridiculous the other way...

Yes, that was welcome. The program itself was very enjoyable.

Too true. Presumably, they've had to deal with complaints in the past, like "I can't read the score on the 13-inch TV in my kitchen," and "The scorebug doesn't look enough like a robot penis."

What a terrific documentary. I missed most of it, but it's on again on Sunday night.

I've been complaining about this for years. I'm glad NBC finally listened.

The replay of the Dakar Rally has the score bar at the bottom of the screen.
If the score bar is only on for replays I'm ok with that.
For all first run and live events it should be off.

It was great, definitely give it a watch. Well done, no bug, and limited commercials. Happy to see more hockey coverage in general, I love being able to see non-NYC (Rangers/Devils/Islanders) games as well thanks to Versus/NBCSN, and they seem to have quite a bit of games between it and the NHL Network now. Great stuff.

Are you a Rangers fan, btw? Let's go Rangers!

Is the NBC Sports Network going to frame in 16:9?
