I'm very interested in getting your feedback on the Oppo/Sony comparison. That should be fun. Are you using XLRs with the Oppo? Is your dealer in Pasadena or are you going somewhere else?
I'm just setting things up right now. Still contemplating, since the AV8001 has only 1 XLR INP pair, whether to connect SCD-XA5400ES or BDP-105? Right now I think I'm going with SCD-XA5400ES for XLR INP, then connect BDP-105 using dedicated 2ch RCA INP and 5.1ch RCA INP's (I will also connect both using HDMI).
I have very large music disc collection- CD (800), SACD (120), DVD-A (25), DTS (15). I'm primarily a music listener, I will probably use Sony primarily for CD's and SACD's. The Oppo will be used mostly for BluRay, DVD, DTS Audio, BluRay Audio, HDCD.
I really love the Parasound A51, the best amp I've owned so far (had NAD C272 & M25 prior). Also used NAD T175 pre-pro before this, yielded good analog sound for music. I'm also using Monitor Audio GS-Series speakers (GS-60 fronts, GS-LCR center, GS-FX rears).
I've purchased gear from several dealers, all over. Matter of fact I was at Best Buy/Magnolia the other day, listened to their MX-121/BMW Diamond set-up, very, very nice sounding. Very impressed with soundstage and musicality. They were playing a popular Chris Botti "live" BluRay performance, very nice vocals, much depth in the presentation.
