I have been using media servers for a few years and my current solution is based around multiple Dune players, Anydvd for ripping and apps like Zapitti and 10Muse for the user interface. Although this is relatively simple and effective solution, which affords me the option to launch movies from my Ipad or Android tablet to any zones, it is by no means elegant and wife friendly. I recently experienced a Kscape demo at CES and whilst I think it is a vastly expensive system, the UI and experience is in a totally different category. Having played around with everything from XBMC, My Movies, et all. There isn't any diy solution I've come across that even remotely comes close.
My analogy will be comparing a Bentley to a VW Golf, both will get you from A to B quite reliably however the user experience is a totally different matter. There are just so many functionalities available with the Kscape experience that make it a vastly superior product, however for me personally, the value proposition is simply not there, even if I could afford it, I can't justify paying multiples more to store my movies than the cost of the content, but hey that's me Mr Cheapskate for you:rolleyes:
