I own or have purchased over 350 K worth of AV gear over the years.

Kaleidascape is the one and only purchase that my wife has said was worth ever dime it cost.

Combined with a Savant system I can now go on my golf trip and not have my wife tell me "not to come home" because she can not watch her videos with out me having to turn everything on and make sure it works.

After 35 years of marriage, best investment I ever made. Unless you have owned and used one, you really cannot appreciate how well it works.

I have a Kaliescape system in my dedicated HT. It's fantastic. It is especially nice setting up scripts for movie night.
My one complaint is the custom movie introductions are not High def, and look terrible. Is there any plan to make a disc in blue ray.. or have they?Dr. J

I have been using media servers for a few years and my current solution is based around multiple Dune players, Anydvd for ripping and apps like Zapitti and 10Muse for the user interface. Although this is relatively simple and effective solution, which affords me the option to launch movies from my Ipad or Android tablet to any zones, it is by no means elegant and wife friendly. I recently experienced a Kscape demo at CES and whilst I think it is a vastly expensive system, the UI and experience is in a totally different category. Having played around with everything from XBMC, My Movies, et all. There isn't any diy solution I've come across that even remotely comes close.

My analogy will be comparing a Bentley to a VW Golf, both will get you from A to B quite reliably however the user experience is a totally different matter. There are just so many functionalities available with the Kscape experience that make it a vastly superior product, however for me personally, the value proposition is simply not there, even if I could afford it, I can't justify paying multiples more to store my movies than the cost of the content, but hey that's me Mr Cheapskate for you:rolleyes:

As you stated, it is a value proposition. There are many DIY media folks on the forum, some with sophistcated systems, and just about all having been built for far less than a K system would cost. That said, I've never encountered one of these systems that had the simplistic, user-friendly, elegance of a K system. In the end, it's about being satisfied with the user experience at whatever cost level you find acceptable. I've been enjoying my K gear since shortly after they opened the doors, and upgrade to the latest gear regularly, and even with the expense, my wife thinks (as do I) it's the best AV equipment we own.

Kaleidescape released their 4TB drives this morning, along with pricing for upgrading KDISKS, or Servers.
