Marantz SR5005 vs Denon AVR-891 vs Pioneer VSX-1021-K

Hi all,
Looking for a suggestion as to which one of those I should get.
They're all within my budget (300-400), Marantz and Denon can be had refurbished for around 380, while Pioneer brand new is 300. Marantz and Denon are probably in a different league than Pioneer?
I'm not looking for anything fancy like 2-nd zone pre-amps etc. I have a pair of Energy CF-50's and yet to add another pair for 5.1 setup. I mainly watch movies but often like to listen to some flac's from my collection. What would you guys choose?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you don't care about network streaming, Apple Airplay and such, then get the Denon 891 or Marantz 5005 for its Audyssey MultiEQ calibration feature.

I think the Denon has the better On Screen Display and video processor which might be helpful and it has 6 HDMI inputs vs 4 on the Marantz.

I have had all three (or the next closest model) in my den...
  • SR5005 (SR6005) - Love its look and sound
  • AVR-891 - Love the sound and probably the best video upscaling
  • VSX-1021-K (Elite VSX-40) - Not my favorite
If I didn't care about video upscaling personally I'd go for the SR5005. Also, I'm fond of Audyssey Dynamic EQ which the Pioneer lacks.

Thanks for all the feedback. I still have my old&trusty sr4002, really like the way the music tracks sound. Now it's between denon and marantz. Decisions...

Charles, between SR5005 and AVR-891 which one would you prefer? Aside from video upscaling, how do they compare in audio? Thanks for your reply.

Audio wise I don't think you'd hear much difference. On a pure gut instinct (guess) I'd say the Denon would have a little more low end (EQ on or off). Basing that on using a Denon AVR-891 and Marantz SR6005 in my den. I know my wife complained more about the Denon while trying to sleep in the room above. She never complained (once) about the two Pioneer units of which is why they weren't my favorite.

For those who want to go on about how everything sounds the same take it up with my wife not me. Since I haven't used the SR5005 (only the SR6005) I can't really say which I'd prefer. If features didn't separate them I'd probably go by price.
