The TX-SR805 weighs 55lbs and shares the same amp as you see in the TX-NR3009 these days.
Correct on the SR805 being comprable to the 3007/5007, 3008/5008, and the 3009/5009 as far as the amplifier and power supply, but the NR809 is far better than any of even the old 60X/70X series receivers in this regard. One need only look at the weight of 25-27lbs on the 60X/70X versus 40lbs on the 809. I would classify it in between these two categories power wise, and of course it is the same amplifier and power supply as the NR1009. Basically the 80X/100X are the same in this regard just like the 300X/500X are too.
So in conclusion the SR805 is one bad ass receiver - which is why I kept mine to run my living room 5.1 along with 8 sets of speakers in the house through a speaker switch
My new media room upstairs has the NR809 because I did not need the power of the 3009 for my 8 ohm speakers to sound great - since the lows will be handled by a powered subwoofer. But if I was running large speakers nothing compares to the 3009/5009 for power. Not even close...
