Thought of a few more:

• Although it's now a joke, the Blair Witch Project close-up-face "I'm so scared" monologue.
• Riding the bomb in Strangelove
• The scene in Platoon (the one on the cover)

Granted, these technically are not "money shots" as I would truly define them but great ones none the less.

I suspect the impact of this is lost on those who weren't around to see the original theatrical release. This was so new and so different and literally changed film forever. And IMO is truly second only to the entrance of Darth Vader shortly thereafter. A never seen before image like that on the big screen as a 7,8, 9, 10, 11, 50 year old?! Wow!

Yeah I suspect so. There's a neat episode of That 70's Show where they all go see it and their reaction is pretty much like mine was....jaws on the floor.

It was also pretty cool when Kubrick did it in 2001 ASO, with the Discovery-1 spaceship.

Great thread!!! I would like to submit the bar scene in Near Dark. Especially the scenes with Bill Paxton!!!

Up has one of my favorite lines: When the old man wants to leave the dog and the boy exclaims, "But he's a talking dog!" Makes me smile everytime I think of it.
