Need Advice On A subwoofer for $800 (sorry in advance)

I apologize in advance, but I really just want to know what other good subwoofers are out there for $800. Im thinking about the SVS PB12-NSD, but I just wanted to see if I could get something better for the same amount of money.

-This will be for 98% movies/games and 2% music
-Budget is $800
-Prefer at least a 12 inch sub or bigger
-Size/appearance doesn't matter at all. Im all about the performance
-Im in a dorm room now, and I dont care that I am. Please don't tell me that I don't need one in a dorm etc because that defeats the purpose of my thread. Ill look into the subwoofer suggestions and see if I can fit it in my room.

I believe you'll be hard pressed to find a better bang for your $800 than an Epik Empire http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/empire.html IIRC they're $799 but I'm not sure if that includes shipping. Other options would include the Outlaw LFM-1 EX http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/lfmEX.html and the HSU VTF-3 http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-3mk4.html

Thanks for the reply, but $800 including shipping is the max I want to pay. I apologize; I should've been more specific. I want one that hits low as well

eD a5-350

At exactly 800 shipped, you'd be hard pressed to get more output and extension IMO.

I have the SVS PB12-NSD and the eD A5-350. The eD has more output. It's a bigger driver at 15" vs 12". But the SVS sounds better to my ears. My biggest problem has been with eD quality. I've had the sub for a year now and it's been serviced 3 times. Two bad amps and a busted driver. The SVS has never given me any problems whatsoever.

I can't speak for Epik or HSU, but I hear they make great subs too. Personally, I would buy the biggest sub you can from SVS.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm leaning towards the SVS PB12 NSD, but I havent heard any of these subwoofers and don't wanna get screwed by buying something I've never heard. Are SVS subwoofers as great as everyone says they are? I'm not just talking about quality of the subwoofer, but the shipping/ customer service/ warranty etc. I've heard great things about them, but I wanna know if I should lower my expectations at all. I'd rather have a sub that is cleaner all the way down to 20HZ than have one that can hit say 17 or 18HZ, but is not as clean. Well defined bass is what I'm looking for, and a 15" driver seems better at first, but if it's not as clean as the SVS, I'd go with the SVS. Someone please tell me what one they would buy is they had enough room etc. I wanna know if I'm splitting hairs here or If im really going to be satisfied with either the SVS PB12 NSD or the eD A5 350.

My speakers are: polk CS20 center/ polk TSI300's front left and right/ polk tsi100 surrounds if that matters.

The newest PB12nsd is a great all around sub for both music and movies. Over the past few years SVSound has continued to improve SQ with the plus and ultra series and the newest NSD is no different. As for customer service they may have some of the best in the ID buisness. If you have an issues they will take care of you even on a Sunday.

I am an Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX owner, and I would recommend choosing the cheapest of the EX, VTF-3 MK4, and PB12-NSD whenever you decide to buy (I bought the EX on sale).

You will love either choice, so you can't lose. However regarding SQ, I doubt that you'd be able to tell a difference (if there even is one), especially with 98% movies. Additionally, for 98% movies, output and extensions rank high on my list, and I believe the a5-350 has the edge in those categories.

Trust me, whatever you get you'll think it was your best choice...

Thanks everyone! I really looked into the eD A5 350 and after thinking about it, I decided that its too big for the space I have now. I'm pretty much sold on the SVS PB12 NSD as of right now. I won't be making an actual purchase for a few months so I'm still open to more suggestions. Thanks again, and I'll let everyone know what I end of getting and how I like it.
