Macon, GA - HDTV - Page 70

Is WMAZ DTV off the air for everyone else too? I have to watch Vegas on analog cable!
does anyone (besides me) notice WMGT-TV 41 (RF40) is off air?? - unless they are having issues at the tower site, but they are still online on Dish Network and Cable

all the other stations WMAZ, WGXA, WMUM, WPGA, WGNM, WRWR-LD, WDMA-CA and WPGA-LP still work

It's been out most of the time for me the last few days too...
well WMGT-TV is supposedly still "off the air" for me, so i messaged them (via their facebook page) to see whats going on yesterday and just hours ago i got this from them

"We are replacing some transmission equipment at the tower as we speak. Engineers expect to have us back up to full power later today. Thanks for watching 41 NBC."
so far as now (while im typing this) i still have a 0% signal from them...

i wonder what are they replacing at that old tower of theirs, and when are they coming back
post #2075 of 2133
I tweaked my antenna a few days ago and 41 came in better, but still drops out at times. Thanks for the update, I had done decided that the problem must be on my end.
well, channel 41 is back at "full power", they still have the most crummiest signal of all the full power stations here in town (i get a better signal reception from WRWR-LD despite their 15kW verses WMGT's 110kW signal)

i still believe if they had a higher HAAT they would have some decent coverage, since they have the lowest HAAT of all

shadow,
you actually have 41. i have 2 different antennas in my attic going to 2 different tvs neither pick up 41. was really hoping to watch some hockey today...

i do, just barely...its like i have it with constant pixelation and drop outs to nothing at all for an extended period of time (like as of now as im typing this, i have no signal from them at all); and to think i live in the city of Macon where you would think i would have a good signal from them along with the rest of the stations...guess thats not the case
post #2079 of 2133
ok that makes me feel better about their crappy signal and equipment and not my stuff. if you are in macon and having problems, I have no chance in SW WR.
Well this is a switch. 13 disappeared about 715 this morning, 24 gone also. 41 only station coming in from Macon. Still getting both PBS and Columbus stations...
Oh yeah, 38 and 58 are still coming in
Could be atmospheric. I'm in Chattanooga and I'm seeing Macon and Columbus this morning.

Weak tropo this morning...scroll down to the 1200Z maps:

I checked about 3:00 pm today and they were back on. If it was atmospheric, that's some weird stuff. I'm probably only about 20 miles from 13 and 24 towers. 13 usually come in full strength on my meter. Glad they are back.
Those maps showed some weird tropo for the whole day.
Trip saw it in Chattanooga, which matches up with the forecast maps.
as of today WDMA-LD on digital channel 31 has lit up, which leaves WPGA-LP as the only analog station on the air in the Macon media market
post #2087 of 2133
Anybody ever hear exactly what upgrades WMGT was doing, the past few weeks?
Their FB page mentioned work on the tower, and in Master Control, "for HDTV".
they didnt say what all they did to the tower, as for upgrades for HDTV, i'll believe it when i see it
post #2089 of 2133
Why?!?!
Don't they do HDTV already?
Problems?

if its content from NBC its in HD but if its local content of syndicated shows thats in HD they will show it in standard Def. (unlike WMAZ, WGXA - sometimes, and WRWR-LD - sometimes)
I feel for them....it's cost us a fortune to be able to bring in and rebroadcast HD from syndicated shows. That's even with the costs spread across two stations, one of which is almost all syndicated HD.
We even get a lot of programming via the internet. Nearly every show requires one or two passes through format conversion. The CALM Act adds another pass, since the system has to analyze the entire show, then apply the audio level corrections to it.
Hi Ken...read your post and was wondering is the first pass that you are doing on your syndicated content to upconvert and deal with aspect ratio issues. Just curious I work for a "glue" company that has really made strides in our smart converters so that most of our broadcasters just "catch" what is sent to them and play it out through our Up-Down system that is set to provide the correct format and aspect even in the realm of requiring an HD ARC. This has been real successful for our news stations, because they never know what they are going to get. Are you going to NAB?
as of today i noticed WMGT-TV is airing some syndicated programs in widescreen HD finally (like in this case before i typed this "The Doctors"), so i guess they had did some upgrading recently (only wish they upgraded their signal strength or antenna height on their tower at least)

also while coming back into Macon on I-16 i see that WPGA removed their old top mounted channel 58 antenna from their tower; replacing it with a new digital antenna maybe?? - we'll see in the coming months

WPGA removed that old antenna a while back... and the crew destroyed an amateur radio repeater antenna along the way (it's been replaced).

do they plan on replacing it with a new antenna?
If they are smart, they'll likely sell that prime space to a land-mobile or wireless internet company.
There's more money there, than in TV.

The repeater antenna was replaced by the tower crew that broke it.

WPGA 58.1, 58.2, and 58.3 reception is terrible tonight near Corder Rd and Laverne Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088. Is anybody else having trouble? Moving the antenna all around the room solves nothing.
