50i into 24p?

This may sound terribly noobish. I've just purchased a canon hf g10 and am shooting in 1080i/50i mode.

I am using Vegas to edit. It seems possible to create a 24p project and put the 50i footage into it but I'm wondering whether it's that simple. I like the more cinematic frame rate that 24p offers.

Appreciate thoughts

If you like 24p, why don't you just shoot your videos in 24p?

The project properties in Vegas should correspond to the actual video properties. You can render your video out at 24p.

I am not sure whether the 50Hz G10 shoots 24p, but it does shoot 25p (actually 25PsF but this does not matter). 25p looks absolutely the same as 24p. This is the rate used to broadcast movies on TV in Europe. The one frame difference will only matter if/when you submit your creation to one of those film festivals, but even in this case they might accept 25p. And if they do not, converting 25p to 24p is easy.

Bottom line: shoot 25p. Converting 25i to 24p is so 1995.

P.S. Your NLE may show 25PsF (called PF25 in the menu) as interlaced, but fear not, you can treat it as progressive.
