Equalizing a PA

Thread Starter
Would like to set up an equalizer for our church PA system. The system is pretty good with adequate power, mains and sub but want to improve it further. Suspect the best way is to test the system using calibrated mic, and a software package and EQ as needed.

What package would you recommend. Is simple frequency response measurements all that is needed?

I am an engineer but audio is an old hobby.

OmniMic from Parts Express.

Now, EQ'ing a system is quite the tricky proposition. I'd assure each section is operating at similiar levels, and EQ down below 200hz or so, however, EQ'ing the midband/HF is a minefield.

Check out ProSoundWeb, this is what they do.

Good luck

Admirable goal. Can you take some before and after plots and post em up? I'd like to follow this thread. I have found churches in general in the past to be like the bear of all equalizations and the application of room treatments to help as well.

Another solution is a dbx unit that will adjust the system for you, like the DriveRackPA+: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DriveRkPaPls/
