I am planning to start acquiring components for a home theater.
Besides an old tube TV and a PC , I have nothing for now. The PC is not in the same room, but I can always pull a wire from my office to the living room for networking.
I have been waiting for the Polk audio 70s to be in sale at newegg and I think I will pull the trigger on those, but I have been looking at BD players and receivers and I am totally confused.
I would like the receiver to last me quite a few yrs and allow me to expand power (preamp outs), I would also like to have network capability. Yamahas seem to have the best record on Amazon reviews. V667 has the preamp capability (thinking about future); 671 has the networking capability but is over $200 more expensive and has no pre-outs. Higher models are a bit of a stretch to my pocket, but I can consider something up to $700-$1k.
I would like to stay away from Onkyo. Pioneer seems to have a whole lot of issues, also I am not planning to use Airplay, which sems to be their strong point.
Now if I get the Yamaha 667 and a BD player with network capability (like a PS3 or an LG player), what do I miss, as opposed to 761?
I am open to other suggestions.
The system would mostly be used for listening music, at least in the beginning on just the 2 polks and maybe a center speaker. Sources I would like to be able to use would be mp3s that I have archived on an external HDD connected to the PC, online sources like Pandora.
Later on I may switch the polks to better speakers, but now I am not ready to shell $1k/piece. Oh, yeah, and I need to buy a real TV too eventually....
I see higher yamaha models (A1010) have HD radio, not sure how important that is and if the difference between analog and digital radio warrants the price jump to 1k.
Also, if I were to buy beter speakers later on an need more power, I would probably just buy an external amp and use the preamp outs.
