Cheap Optical Cable Recommendation Wanted?

I need a recommendation for a cheap toslink optical cable to connect between my Sony LCD TV and Yamaha AVR. I only use over-the-air HD (w/o cable or satellite) so the cable will carry digital TV program audio information to the AVR.

Are all the cheap cables created equal?

I see on the Best Buy website there are a number of cheap cables:

Belkin - Digital Optical Audio Cable $7.24
Dynex - 4' Digital Optical Audio Cable 9.99
Steren - Digital Optical Audio Cable 4.34
PureAV - PureAV Blue Series Digital Optical Audio Cable 9.35
Belkin - PureAV Blue Series Digital Optical Audio Cable 10.95
Audiovox Corp - Rca One For All - RCA Digital Plus Optical Audio Cable 8.24
Startech.com - Toslink Optical Digital SPDIF Audio Cable 5.99
Startech.com - Toslink to Mini Optical Digital SPDIF Audio Cable 9.06

What would be your top 3 choices depending what they have in stock?

None of those, NEVER buy cables from Worst Buy.

Get anything from monoprice.com.

less than 3 bucks a cable, and they are exactly the same as other ones. Digital cables either work or they dont, no difference in "quality".

Thanks sitlet. Is the 6' premium cable any better than the 6' standard cable for my needs?

How much you want to empty your pocket book. If you want something that will stand up to wear and tear (ie, you have a rollong rack that you are constantly pulling in or out, or dj) go with a heavier jacket and better coating on the fiber.

Or is you do not want it getting damaged, just put it in split lo to protect.

IME the Toslink sockets that most consumer electronics use are quite fragile, and can easily be damaged by the big, heavy metal decorations that many "premium" brands add to their plugs. My advice is to buy the simplest, lightest cable that you can find. You'll probably have to shop on the Internet to find these.

Because EIAJ Optical audio cables are only good for a few feet, getting expensive cables with cladding that's designed to withstand long cable pulls and resist being damaged by a backhoe is a pointless expenditure. Save your money.
