replace lamp warning...do i really need to?

I have an epson hc720 and this is the first time ive had to change the lamp. Right at 1600 hours, i get the replace lamp warning and the hours are displayed in yellow. I was still very happy with the brightness and surprised that the warning came on.

I went ahead and changed the bulb, turned on the pj, and got the replace lamp message. Now, while the image is brighter, its not by much and maybe more placebo affect than anything else. Are these projectors automatically set to give a warning at a certain hour mark? To me, the old lamp still had plenty brightness and i feel like i changed it prematurely.

Yep, the projectors use an "egg timer". That simple. The internal clock counts the hours used and flashes a message or warning at a specific time. The actual condition of the lamp never enters into the equation.

If you're happy with the old lamp, put it back in and reset the counter. When the old lamp gets too weak or fails, THEN you can throw the new lamp in.
