Slingbox with Xbox 360 Slim Media Extender to get WMC?

I am wanting to get rid of my last Verizon Fios Box. The HTPC and Xbox 360s as extenders work very well for live and recorded TV. But my daughter at school is dependent on the Slingbox which is connected to our Fios DVR and she has a Slingcatcher which doesn't require that she use her laptop for TV.

I am outputting my Xbox 360 slim extender via HDMI. The Slingbox Pro does not have HDMI and uses component or analog. I have modified the analog cable of the Xbox slim to allow connecting both HDMI and analog outs at the same time but don't get the video signal (only sound) via the Slingbox. Maybe MS limits simultaneous digital and analog output like they do on HTPCs

I was thinking I could get a Monoprice HDMI splitter and feed one of the split HDMIs to my receiver and the other HDMI to an HDMI to component-video-stereo converter using something like this for the Slingbox Pro and the other split HDMI.

Has anyone done this? If so and it works, any issue with controlling WMC7?

We also have Remote Potato but its not as reliable overall and she'd prefer to use the Slingcatcher that plugs directly into her TV so she doesn't have to use her laptop.

TIA

Why not just use component out of the Xbox? Other than cabling simplicity there's really no benefit to Component over HDMI on the Xbox.

There is no component directly out of the Xbox 360 Slim. Only HDMI, optical SPDIF and the Xbox plug to analog RCA (yellow, red, white). One can get the Xbox plug/cable adapted to component output but from what I've read, they can't both be connected at the same time, or if they are, it resets the machine even if you physically hack the plug to allow plugging in both (as I did). I tried it and it didn't output video when the HDMI was plugged in (only sound).

Do the older Xboxes have both HDMI and component video and does it output to both. If so, I'll try to find one on Ebay.

No, you can't run both at the same time, my point is why even bother with HDMI, it really doesn't gain you anything.

So you are suggesting running everything thru the Slingbox. I could but I'd have to get the Xbox component cable since it only came with the composite cables analog. Also the Xbox sound out is Optical SPDIF or Analog Stereo and the Slingbox is Coax SPDIF no optical. Nothing is straight forward and I was going to run this in the home theater because it isn't used as often. Also, I'd hate to make the sound compromises and have to reconfig a bunch of stuff on the receiver.

Other than that. The Slingbox control of WMC thru the Xbox should be OK?

What sound compromises? HDMI doesn't get you any better audio with the Xbox (except maybe with HD DVD, but I've not tried that since I got my new Xbox).

I don't see why not, but I've never used a Slingbox.

The sound compromise would be on some of the lossless formats from DVDs etc. but not an issue if I use another X-box in another location other than the home theater with the big sound system. It is a PITA to have to go back to multiple cables, RCA plugs etc. vs single HDMI. Not a big fan of HDMI for other reasons, but I wish everything was Cat6. Thanks for the help.

It looks like the biggest issue may be the Slingbox virtual remote for Media Center in terms of operation.

There are no lossless formats on DVD, none that can't be transported by S/PDIF. From what I've seen games are still output at DD even over HDMI as well.

I meant BD but I can't play BD/MKVs thru the extenders anyway so.... My solution is to move the Xbox-Slingbox to another setting where retro RCA cabling, AVR reconfiguring and remote reprogramming won't be as onerous.
