Sharp XV-Z30000 3D DLP - Page 40

If I would have waited another week I would hit the 60 day credit card dispute window.

Well it was too good of a deal to pass up. Hopefully it was just me that received a bad product and all of yours work well. Now I just need to replace it with something else.

Any recommendation Zombie? Like to spend $3K or less.

The HW50 and the RS46 are two favorites this year in the 2.5k -3k range. The Sony is a bit over but you get the extra lamp, glasses and 3 year warranty which adds up.

The 2D PQ on the RS46 is excellent for this price range. 3D is improved as well this year. You can't go wrong with either model.

3D Sports!!!!!!

We watched the Wimbledon semis and finals in 3D on the Z30K.
Awesome.
Andy Murray, first British (actually Scotland) male player to win in 77 years!
To be the best, you have to beat the best (Novak Djokovic, World #1).
The semi with Del Potro and Djokovic was an epic (5 hrs), even better than the final.

It's sad that ESPN is shutting down 3D. frown.gif

The BBC also announced they were going to discontinue the 3D service as well.

I think we'll still have plenty of 3D BD's lined up for the near future. The 3D animations are a given since it's an easy cash grab to lure in the kids/parents (Monster's University, etc) and also the super-hero movies like Iron Man 3, etc.

We had some guests over for July 4th, 2 visitors are hard-core movie enthusiasts. I ran a number of my 3D demo clips through the 30K and they were shocked how good it looked. We almost missed the fireworks, couldn't get them out of the seat. The big 142" HP never fails to impress, it's a perfect match for a good 3D projector.

Hi Zombie,
My spare Z30K bulb came today from overseas.
I want to test it out, but need a visual "pep talk". I know it's on your "to do" list, but can you shoot some detailed pics of the bulb change procedure?
Thanks smile.gif

Last update. Got a call from Sharp that they received refurbished models in stock today and could ship me out one. After two bad projectors I said I paid for a new one and either wanted a new one as a replacement or to be reimbursed. Got another call a few hours later that they would reimburse me for the full amount (and an email for to sign this afternoon). Case closed but I don't really feel any better as I thought that for the price paid this was an awesome deal.

Now to find a replacement.

I wonder if they are selling refurbished Z30Ks?
Has anyone seen them? if the Woot deal looked good, what would a refurb go for? eek.gif
Personally, I have had good luck with refurbed electronics. If the price were right, I would not hesitate.
Almostinsane, bummer about your PJ. You might consider the above and see if they would sell you a refurb at a discount for your all your hassle.
My $.02.

humbland - i'm trying to find time to take the lamp apart again, hopefully soon.

sorry to hear about the issues above, it does happen with any of the projectors we've been discussing. My 30K is purring like a kitten, using it all the time for 2D ambient light viewing. I have 4 extra lamps, so no fear of racking up the hours. cool.gif

I'll bite.
Where did you find the replacement lamps? Are you sure they are "original"?

The globes are identical to the ones in zombies photos. Can't see too many manufacturers fot these globes

"FIT FOR SHARP PHOENIX SHP135 EIKI SHARP DLP Projector Lamp"

Am I allowed to post links to the source?

I think I found it.
You're right, it looks identical and the description is almost the same. The only thing missing from the description (of the one i ordered from Zombie's link) is the word "Original".
Interesting that they are coming from similar sources. It's probably the same lamp.
Please let us know how how it works, perhaps we'll stock up...

One of the easiest ways to tell the original vs. a copy is the material used to protect the wiring. The original lamps have a mesh braided material, the copies I've seen online just have a smooth plastic material.

These appear very similar....possibly from the same manufacturer:

The ebay add doesn't list that price. Is it some kind of discount for buying 3 lamps?

Too true!

BTW zombie the G20 glasses are working a treat, appear to sysc better than the G10, possibly have a more sensitive reciever.

Going to follow you're craft class instructions today and apply the felt!smile.gif

Zombie,
My replacement bulb arrived from overseas. Is there any way to test it without mounting in the Z30K? That is can you use a multimeter on it and check continuity? The prospect of removing the PJ from the ceiling and pulling it apart to test the bulb....eek.gif

unfortunately it can't be tested without installing it. If it's a hassle to access the projector, I wouldn't worry about the new lamp potentially being bad. I ordered 4 of them, some from different co's and tested 2 randomly that were perfect.

I'll still write up the swap instructions so it's archived in the thread.

looks like it's hard to get a good deal on the 30K now. This one vendor had quite a few and the price keeps going up.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Sharp-XV-Z30000-DLP-Home-Theater-3D-Projector-with-2-FREE-3D-Glasses-HDMI-/360473140247?pt=US_Video_Projectors&hash=item53eddf9c17

most sold in the $2500 range, the under 2K deals are gone.
Just ordered two pairs of the G20 glasses at Zombie's advice. The ones that came with the projector are really uncomfortable and keep losing sync in my room no matter where I place the emitter.

I wish the projector were brighter. Even with few hours on the lamp, I'm barely getting 10 fL on my 8-foot wide screen after calibration. And that's in 2D. For 3D, forget about it. I have to forego any pretense of calibration and crank all the settings (including Brightness Boost) to get a watchable 3D picture.

Admittedly, that's in Eco lamp mode, but the High setting is just too loud to be bearable.
I've only seen 2 30K's, but neither seemed loud in high lamp with the projector about 2 feet from my seated position. It cranks out ~950 lumens @ D65 which is comparable to the HW50 and RS46.

can you record a sound bite of the fan in high lamp? I wonder if it's an issue with that particular sample's fan. I can easily hear the X35's fan which imo is much more noticeable than the 30K.
Since I no longer have this projector I have 4 pairs of the OEM glasses, 2 IR receivers, and a remote I'd let go for free. You just pay shipping (probably $16 for all via UPS to the 48). Payment via paypal gift so fees don't apply.

IM me.

These are spoken for.

It could just be that I'm extremely sensitive to this. The projector is basically right behind my head.

Coming from an RS40, you're going to be disappointed by pretty much any other projector, save the newer Sony machines. DLP needs to catch up in the noise department as almost every LCOS out there today is virtually silent, while 75% of DLPs are unacceptable in my opinion.

i'll have to revisit this, my W7000 is pretty loud in high lamp. X35 is a screamer too. louder than my RS55 with high altitude mode.

I heard the new Optoma 25 is so noisy w/ high fan speed that it will start levitating if it's not anchored down. smile.gif

I recently test drove an Epson 6020. That thing was loud as a g-d Hoover even in low lamp mode.

Does anyone in Portland or the Pac NW have a Sharp Z30000?
