As a new Sharp owner, the only real concern I have with this projector is the gaming lag. I've been reading up on it and it appears to range between 50ms and 80ms, IIRC. I started thinking about my gaming habits and what games I love to play. I'm a big fan of Dark Souls on the Xbox 360 (the best
game I've played in the last 10 years). I currently play it on a Pioneer Kuro 5020 and have enjoyed it like crazy. With Dark Souls 2 coming out this fall, well, this whole "lag issue" is important to me!
It occurred to me to see what the lag times on my current Kuro are. Afterall, I've been happy gaming on the Kuro for years and the word "lag" never entered my mind unless it was server-based. As it turns out, the Kuro has a tested and confirmed 50ms value in Movie mode (which I use exclusively).
Most of my fears on the Z30K washed away when I found this info on AVS. I think a lot of fuss is made out of gaming lag. I get it, there's people out there that lag would affect. My son, who plays COD games and can muster 50+ kills per match, has played countless hours on my Kuro and never once complained about lag. The kid measures his KDR like guys my age measure cholesterol, and the word "lag" never has been uttered.
If the Z30K has a lag between 50ms and 80ms, to me that's a net gain of potentially 30ms of lag, because 50ms feels like zero to me, and to my son too.
I read people say, "Oh, this PJ has 75ms of lag. This is entirely unacceptable for gaming. Horrendous. Etc."
Sometimes it's good to put things in perspective. Especially when you consider that the PS4 and the new Xbox, both coming out this year, will possibly have games displayed at 60fps (the current gen is capped at 30fps).
There are those of us who love games (almost) as much as movies. After all, the gaming industry makes more money than the Film & Music industries combined
. I bought the Z30K so that I could game when I want to and go scope on a 2.35 screen when I want to. To me, it's the best of both worlds.
If there are some of you like-minded gamers out there with and Xbox or PS3 hooked up to your Z30K, I'd love to hear what games you play and what your experience has been like.
Apparently, I can ramble on about this forever.
