They took almost 2 thousand off that price for the sale you ordered from?

I ordered the 632U, and if you go through ordering process to just after you input your payment, they took $1300 off the price.

Shipping experiences are all over the map.

I've had excellent service from Pilot with a 50" plasma ordered from Amazon. The truck showed up on time, with three guys in it! Brought the set into the house and allowed me to power up to ensure no problems.

My 65" DLP set was delivered by two guys who actually encouraged me to unbox the set and make sure it was ok before signing the paperwork.

My one bad experience was when a shipper called me and told me my set was in. Told me I needed a truck to come down and get it. Of course it was supposed to be delivered to the house, and I told them than. Shipper refused until I called the company I ordered the product from. Shipper (same rude guy) called back like nothing happened and asked when I wanted them to bring the set out to the house. One guy in a truck showed up and I let him get the thing into the house by himself.

The one suggestion I would have is to discuss the delivery process with the company when they call to set up the delivery time. Ask how many people will be present and what they are expected to do.

If there is a discrepancy between what you signed up for and what you're being told, contact the seller and let them handle straightening out the shipper.

If the driver tries to rush you into signing, just refuse and let him take the item back. Again, contact the seller and let the shipper bring it out again - with a different attitude.

Most drivers seem to be ok guys, but under the contstraint of too few personnel for large item delivery and an unrealistic time frame to get their routes completed. The customer doesn't have to suffer because of these factors, just realize that the driver probably didn't decide on how many people it takes to get the job done, or, how quickly it can happen.

Like the previous poster a couple of pages back, I too travel for a living. I am thinking of pulling the trigger on an 844 from EastCoast but am concerned about being in town anytime near when it arrives.

So my question is, is there a vague concensus on roughly how long it usually takes EastCoast to deliver assuming the set shows in stock? I am just wondering if total time to Texas will be less than 7 days or more like 20. Specifically, I tend to have an open week here and there and would like to order it in such a way that I can at least determine when to order it so that it will arrive during a week when I am home.

Why not just try and get a price match from a local retailer? They work around your schedule and from what I have been hearing is that places Frys, Sears and BBY are being aggressive with matching prices online.

My local Best Buy and Sears won't budge a penny from their prices.

Has anyone bought from Abe's of Maine. They are an authorized dealer and have the 844 for $4698.18 withe free shipping or $100 for white glove.

Best Buy salesman told me they will price match Amazon and othe online dealers as long as they are an authorized Sharp dealer. Haven't gone any further than the talking stage.

My local Best Buy follows their price matching policy to the letter which states:
"Does Best Buy match the prices of Internet retailers?
No. Best Buy does not match the prices of Internet-only retailers or the website prices of our local retail competitors' stores"

You should go back and read my rant in post 960 wink.gif I did talk to both BB and Fry's last weekend (and BB did agree to price match East Coast*) but neither have any in stock, nor in the warehouse, or any idea when they will. Basically, other than floor models, there don't appear to be any 844's anywhere in Texas.

*it is easy to say you will price match something you know you don't have

Almost all of the 632"s are out of the supply chain save for those which are floor samples. Most of the Costcos & Sams now have 633"s on the floor. If you are diligent and call around you still may be able to score a 632 for less than 3K just like I did along with a buddy of mine.
My final cost turned out to be 2900 for the set and 179 for the Sharp factory warranty. This is the first flat panel that I can remember in years that has not plummeted in price, simply due to Sharp having zero competition in this form factor.

EDIT: Ahh poop, got near the end and it added sales tax to bring me to 3780 in VA.... I'll continue to wait to get this in the low 3s.

When I ordered mine, I got a call from the local shipper to arrange the day when I wanted it delivered. Within reason I'm pretty sure they will hold it for maybe a week until you are home to accept delivery. You already paid for it, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't hold on to it until you are ready for it. Too many days though, and it might mysteriously disappear from their warehouse!! biggrin.gif

Costo no longer sells the 632...now they sell the 633 for $4150
post #1039 of 1440
I have been in 6 of the costco's in WA over the last 2 weeks or so, 2 still has 632's, the rest had 633's. One had the 632 at 2900, one had it for 3400. I' m sure this varies from area to area. If you are willing to spend a little time on the phone you might be able to save $800, well worth it IMO...

Without a $50 membership card, you may not make it past the front door. YMMV.

Actually, you can waltz into any wholesale club without a membership card, just tell them you are buying alchohol only. If you try to checkout with anything else you will need to go to membership and sign up.

I usually tell them at the entrance that I'm there to signup for membership and need to go to the customer service counter. Once inside I can roam around at-will.

Years ago when I tried to get inside a Costco, I tried the customer service routine. I was practically held at gunpoint to keep me from seeing the rest of the store. After being told I needed to pay $50 to see the inner sanctum, I left. I signed up for Sam's Club because they allowed me to check it out first.
