This link is the breakdown on prices for new 2012 models....

Thanks! Didn't know that was out there.

I do wish this unit had the aluminum bezel. The plastic one on mine has some very faint scratches on the lower left corner. I'm assuming it came to me like that from the factory. I know no one here has touched it and I'm pretty confident I didn't do it during installation. Not a huge deal just a minor irritation.

Ah no worries. My hope actually is that the msrp will come down by the time it ships. Panny has already lowered the msrp on its 2012 plasmas (which have yet to ship) as they chase Sharp and others in a race to the bottom. Kind of a vicious cycle for mfrs but wonderful for consumers. For now anyway.

What will make it really interesting is if Panasonic actually releases a 70" Plasma this year. Sharp has been running their own race in the 70 and 80 inch market.

Indeed. And Panny may have little choice but to price it reasonably. By which I mean $5k or less, lest it be eaten alive by the big Sharps. Even if the 70" plasma is a VT50 top of the line model, which it presumably would be, Panny has to up the brightness IMO to work as well as the sharps for most home environments.

Yup, still works today I see. Tempted to send this to the border and bring it into Canada, I just can't find anything even close north of the border. Best currently is bloody $4800 at Best buy

Agreed. One of my primary reasons for choosing the Sharp over the VT50 was brightness. To be fair though, 80" over 65" played a role as well.

Didn't someone from Canada post that they were seeing $3,500ish prices?

Here's hoping that this set will still be available at the end of this year, or be replaced by the rumored LC-80LE645U. It would seem strange that Sharp would only have 1 80" 3D set and not have a 2d version as well. Esp seeing the way that these are selling. Keeping fingers crossed.

One of the reasons I bit now was because of the early rumors that they may do away with the 120Hz, 2D display. I figured I'd jump now for the US-A price and not worry about being stuck with a slightly higher priced unit with features I didn't really want in the first place. As it turns out those rumors were likely false, and I probably could have waited, but what the hell...I love the set and have no regrets.

My permission committee actually liked the idea...because she hated the projector hanging from the ceiling...lesser of two evils and all in her mind.

i know most of you know this is a great display, but want to voice a shout out again. sharp has a panel that finally has no flaws, by that i mean know dse,no banding, and excellent screen uniformity. i previously had the sharp elite, and although excellent uniformity was apparent dse was as well, along with stuck pixels. the biggest gripe and deal breaker though was the pulsing that was created by a flawed local dimming software/hardware issue.

fiances???

How many fiances do you have? Does the permission committee know about all the fiances? Do all the fiances know about the permission committee? Do all the fiances know about all the other fiances?

I'm glad all I have to worry about is the War Department!

April release date so far ! on the 844....

US Appliance looks to be on a 2 week swing on restocking going by what happened the last time they ran out .
All this is Good News to us sitting on the fence post..........
The more units that get out there in the hands of Happy Campers,
the more they will make more & then prices will lower some more(hopefully) .
Also the more US-Ap sells this display the better wholesale price they will get from Sharp ..(Agin...hopefully) thereby better for Us waiting to buy & looking like Vultures waiting & waitin' & waitin'

Anyone with a 832 notice any problems with motion issues ? due to the 120 refresh rate ? Hope you are Happy with your display ..

Damn I shouldve tried that! Problem is that right after we moved I'd already ruled out using our PJ and screen in the room in question as the screen is too large (110") for the space. 80" is pushing it. I'm having a hard enough time getting her to come to BB with me to see it in person let alone pull the trigger!

I wonder how many people have purchased this TV expecting 3D support.

In this forum, I would say none. Most here either accept it for what it is, or like me, don't even want it. I would imagine even BB has the sense to tell people it's not 3D. On the flip side though, I'm sure there are those that got it home and were flabbergasted when they realized it's not a 3D set.

Just make like you're going to hang the projector...see what happens.

I was actually thinking about just buying it and hanging it while she's out of the house. Just to see if she'd notice
