Congrats on the S790,I have a quick question,I purchased the S590 hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V671 receiver and Samsung PN64E8000 and have NO issues(unlike the 2 Samsung players I returned).I have a 30 day return policy on the S590,is it worth to exchange and upgrade to the S790 for the clear black option settings along with the other settings that arent offered on the 590?

That's true. I did that early on with my now replaced Panasonic 310 (dual HDMI output). I wasn't comparing receiver/player but remember seeing higher resolutions in the HDMI specs themselves that 'might' would allow 4K to get through a receiver with HDMI 1.3, 1.4 and/or 1.4a.

Having owned the Oppo 93, PS3, SNP-N200, S580, S390, S590 and the Panny 210, 220 ..... I've finally settled on the S790.

I already thought the S590 was an awesome player (see the thread I started on the 2012 players) ... and it is ..... but the question to me was ... is the S790 better by an extra $100. Yes. I think it is, to me at least. I do like the improved overall design. It does feel overall more sturdy and put together .. but folks it is still plastic at the end of the day. I do like the remote on the 790 ... and finally I do think the picture quality is improved for DVD up scaling and IP video (if that matters to you). I like the further refinement that you can make to the video output, with all the different options and settings.

What Sony still need to do however for their 2012 players (and not exclusive to the S790) is ... and if you are listening Sony ... and you will destroy the competition if you do this ... is, move the Hulu + and Amazon VOD apps UI from the PS3, and put them on your 2012 BD players. Once you have done this, you're players will be complete.

Ive got 2 s-780s connected to two pana 50 inch 3D plas displays. no 4K display.

is this player worth moving up to the 790?

Totally agree. This will be the last player I own until true Blu ray 4K comes out.

Does the new Sony have Cinavia. If it does it would be a deal breaker because it would be impossible to back up many disks.

But more relevant: can you see any preference for the 790 upconverting 1080p to 4K for display on your VW1000, compared to sending the projector 1080p and letting it do the upconversion?

I understand that but the 95 still would look amazing with the 790 sending 1080p into it. Truth is as of right now we can't get true 4K either so 4K like is a relevant question. I loved the 95 and it's amazing image. It is not too far off from the 1000 at the end of the day. And yes I have had them side by side.

I bought the S590 at Target a few weeks ago when they had the price error on it. I would like to know if the S790 is worth getting even though I have non 3D 46" Panasonic plasma tv?

The more you use them the less the native image will be retained. Over the years the Sony's enhancements have been shown to do nothing but artificially tweak the image. Now some prefer that look which is perfectly fine... just don't call it superior.

Go Into VuDu - Select the COLLECTIONS tab - Then Down to SHOWCASE
