It could, but it's highly unlikely. The 590 and 390 got a new firmware today, and youtube is still SD on those.

Anyone has a synology NAS who got the streaming of various video types and codecs working with the standard DSM mediaserver feature without 3rd party packages like Serviio?
With mine, the MIME types show up wrong with the standard mediaserver. I've also set custom MIME types: avi=video/x-ms-video,wav=audio/x-wav,m4v=video/mp4,mp4=video/mp4,mkv=video/x-msvideo
Then I reindexed my library but it still didn't work. All the video files are M2TS, but the should be MP4 or something else.

Any suggestions?

krikke

Solved it after many testing and research.

Went to media server > dma compatibility > device list > and selected 'generic DLNA' for my Sony bdp s790 bly-ray player instead of the 'sony blu-ray disk profile'.
Everything else is set to default, no custom MIME-typer whatsoever. MP4 and MKV files are showing up right, not M2TS anymore. smile.gif

Hopes this helps somebody.

New update today - M13.R.0491. Seems to have fixed the TrueHD audio dropout problem with Total Recall (2012). Not sure what else (if anything) is fixed.

Sure could, but only Sony can make that call. You could try posting on their forum. Keep pestering them ... they might listen. Stranger things have happened.

Could you test, to make sure Cinavia hasn't being enabled on DLNA ?

At last??!!! Testing Total Recall now, and so far the past 30+ minutes and not one hiccup!

But geez, did this update, for their OWN branded movie, take this long to release? Sure hope this is not a view of the future (firmware update frequency) support from Sony. I will never buy a Samsung again ever, due to their poor quality and total lack of support.

Maybe - I don't normally use DLNA but have a few MKV's on my NAS. I don't have any ISO's.

Almost perfect with New Firmware:
Chapter 9: First drop out for about 1 second, just before he unlocks the door to the apartment. Several others during Chapter 9, plus video and audio went out of sync. I shut the movie down to watch the News, then continued after. Only other drop out was in the scene with Mathias. So, in total, about 5 drop outs during the whole movie, and almost all in Chapter 9.
Now, when will OPPO give us the FW update for my 93, and I can try Chapter 9 with it.

I loaded the new firmware last night. The most noticeable change was when I tried to "Display Info" while streaming Netflix. Before, the streaming speed was displayed in large characters in the lower right side of the screen. Now, only minimal information is displayed, in very small characters, in the upper left hand corner. Has anyone else had this experience? This update was definitely a step backward for me.

Pushing info in the Netflix app has always displayed info in the top left hand corner.

Guys ... a new app is now available on Sony Entertainment Network Portal. Its actually a Opera TV app ... so appears in both places. It won't appear however in the XMB directly.

Its called "LandscapeHD 1080p" and provides HD quality "landscape music videos". It is a mix of some of the world's best classical and instrumental music and carefully crafted films of natural and man made subject matter. There's around 100 music videos available and the videos can be shuffled in the app (under settings).

I've being involved in the channel over the years - so this is a bit of self promotion. But I do encourage S790 owners to give the app a go ... and let us know what you think (of both the app and the content).

Its all free BTW !

Thx.

I installed the new firmware M13.R.0491 and DLNA works fine for mkv containers.

(I am using QNAP x86 with Twonky 7.0.13. I had to modify the Sony Blu-Ray profile for the mkvs to be playable on the S790.)

If I am not mistaken the Total Recall audio dropout problem is not firmware related but disc related and not every disc exhibits this behavior. I've never tried my copy on the BDP-S790, but it has played without a hiccup on my BDP-S5000ES and BDP-103. I will try it on my BDP-S790 this weekend and report back.smile.gif

Often enough manufacturers are forced to find some way to work around bugs caused by other people, if only to reduce the number of mis-directed complaints they get. Maybe they enhanced the error recovery code used by the routines that read the audio files off disc.

Hello.

I would like to ask how come Sony itself doesn't say this player has dual core processor? Nowhere on site on specifications?
As I can't find that info, do you know if other players also have dual core? Like S590? Or all in one systems like N590, N790, NF720?

And where can I find load times, as it seems reviews very rarely say what are load times for discs and movies and I find that important.

Also, if I buy this player, can I connect it to my HX850 and this all in one system from like 5 or 6 years ago, and still enjoy in DTS HD?

Many thanks in advance.

Its live now. Its called "New Youtube for TV". Wow, I'm pretty surprised we got a upgrade. BTW. The old app is still there too.

I have to hand it to Sony .... they obviously must be reading this thread each and every day ... ;-)

Thanks for the Brochure.
I suppose it's on US pages?

I've read my local (Croatia) and UK ones, but haven't seen it. Even in specifications and PDF manual.

Anyhow, do you know if other players also have dual core? And by how much do they speed up the operation?

The new samsung f7500 I believe has a duel core processor too.

For the s790, I've only noticed improvement browsing large local folder structures over DLNA. The s790 is more responsive navigating through XMB. The newer 5100 and 3100 although are not advertised as duel core ... Have slightly faster disk loading timed than the 790.

Thanks again.

I'm still undecided between this standalone player and all in one package.

Hi guys i updated to the latest firmware yesterday and I have a problem:
The Sony S790 did not detect more folders of BD Backup as AVCHD (with the blue icon), but sees them as simple folders.. serious problem because with the BD 3D there is no way to start the film in 3D from the folder STREAM...can someone give me a hand?
Thanks smile.gif

I'm interested in buying either S—790 or new model S—5100. Which one is better? Which of those is upper class?

Information when using cloned HDMI out on the S790 (firmware M13.R.0491)

When using dual HDMI out in 'clone' mode, the audio output will default to the device with the lowest capability. I'd been tearing my hair out as to why there was no surround sound when the S370 had worked fine.

In my case I had it connected to an Amp (NAD T775) and a TV (Panasonic 50ST60) and could only get Stereo PCM (TV's capability), that was it. No multi-channel PCM, or bitstream of any sort, even though the S790 was happily telling me the soundtracks were all in surround encodings of one sort or another. When I unplugged the TV totally and plugged the Amp into either HDMI Out 1 or 2, no problems at all. I've only had the unit for 3 days so am not sure if this is the case with old firmware. I'm also curious if other people have the same limitation with different gear.

I had hoped to permanently connect to both the TV and the Amp (not 3D capable) and only use the direct TV link for 3D films (engaging AV Separation mode as required), but this would preclude any type of surround sound. I could permanently set things up in AV Separation mode, but for the sake of simplicity for the rest of the family want to route everything through the Amp.

It seems a bit obvious now, but hopefully it can save someone else a day of frustration filled with cable swapping, set-up tinkering and factory resetting.

The S790 now has two YouTube players. The "New YouTube for TV" plays HD videos. The new YouTube player has a lot more functions including a useful mobile device pairing feature.
