You act as though every single new TV technology has to take the same period of time to reach maturity. Also it's worth noting that even though Sony called CLED a prototype at CES, we have absolutely no idea how mature the technology was to that point. What I mean is it could have been at the early prototype stage 3 years ago, but now that they were getting closer to bringing it to market, they decided to show it off at the start of this year.
If all these rumours are true then CLED screens are a bunch of tiny segmented panels put together to form a bigarse display. If true thn this breaks the mold of all display technologies that have come before it as it's a radically different method of constructing a TV screen. We have no point of reference to use when determining how quickly it should come to market. What we do have is a company who is hauling ass to rebuild their various divisions, comments from earlier in the year stating CLED should be ready by the end of this year, and supposed inside information stating that they're ramping up mass production this quarter.
Of course we have nothing solid to say what is in fact going to happen, but we have a fair bit of info that can lead us to speculate that we're far closer than we thought to seeing CLED hit the market than anyone originally thought. I must admit when I read the WSJ article I thought it almost seemed too good to be true... 55" CLED coming out very soon at nearly half the price of competitors OLED displays! I was damned happy to hear that, but will also remain a bit skeptical until we hear something more concrete from other sources. In the meantime, various people I've chatted with online who seem to be "in the know" when it comes to Sonys internal businesses seem to also believe CLED is almost here. One even noted we'll see sizes in 65".
Anyways, all I'm saying is you don't seem to be open to the possibilty of this info being true at all simply because there's no precident for it in the past and you believe the tech hasn't matured enough, even though we know next to nothing about it. Are you right? I don't know! Am I right in thinking we'll see it soon? I don't know! I'm just going where the available evidence points me until we get something more.
