Recommendations for a good PC gaming TV?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase a gaming grade LCD/LED TV within the next week or 2 to replace my Panasonic 55" VT30 plasma I had just bought, which was to replace my 5 year old Sharp Aqous that was moved upstairs to replace an old CRT TV. My old Sharp had excellent response/lag time so it worked great as a PC monitor. I had tried an LG Infinia 3d 55", but it was horribly slow and I could visibly see the lag time between my mouse movements and on screen. So I went with a Panny plasma.

This plasma response and PQ was fantastic, felt like using an old CRT monitor. Unfortunately I'm having some weird component issues with the TV and have to return it. Found out that this model was recently pulled and discontinued so I'm not sure whether to replace this with a lesser Panny model or just use LED/LCD like I have been for these few years.

For my gaming habits, I use the TV primarily as a PC monitor. I'll have fairly long gaming sessions in one run (can easily last 4+ hours in one sitting). I noticed immediate IR on my screen from playing SWTOR, as the menus/UI still remain in the background well after a few screen washes. This was also after breaking in the TV with a 120 hour breakin period. Now this also might be due to issues with the panel itself that I'm having. But because of that alone is making me want to switch back to LCD.

My price range is about 2K. I dont want to go smaller than 50" (game on my couch, will never go back to gaming on a desk). Also need a great response time as I play FPS games and MMOs. PQ is a must, dont care about audio as I use my HT system/speakers. Can LCD TVs meet my needs in 2011/2012? I've read the newer LCD TVs are pretty horrible with response lag, even with Game mode turned on (The LG I got a few weeks ago was very slow). A lot of reviews I read on various TVs are never tested with games/response lag in mind either.

Any picky gamers out there happy with their LCD TV and the response times they get?

Sorry about the book, wanted to give you guys background.

Well my Samsung PN50C7000 performs great but I am also pleased with my Sharp 60LE632 (in game mode) and I game almost daily (mostly FPS).

There are 47-52" LCD/plasma computer monitors in the size and price range you desire.

Something like the Panasonic TH-50PF30U is perhaps what you seek. I think there are 52" IPS panels if you chose to go with LCDs instead.

Cool, I'll take a look at some of those models you guys listed. I'm still on the boarder for finding an equivalent TV to my Panny P55VT30, but I leave my TV on for long amounts of time in the background while I work. I'd still perfer to use a LCD/LED as they use a lot less power and dont suffer from IR.

One question I had though was that a few of the new LCDs I've read reviews on, most list the LCD input lag about 60-70ms. Are their any 55" LCD panels that have a faster input rate closer to plasma/CRT? I checked digitalversus.com and the Sharps I read reviews on all show the inplut lag at 60ms+. My old Aquos was fantastic for this, but it was also just a 60hrz, no apps or 3D, and I really dont care about the apps anyway.. 3D is ok but not a big deal to me, would only use it for gaming though.

Sony EX720/EX723 has really low lag in Game - Original scene. I use 32" version as PC monitor and mouse motion feels instant and sharp. In other scenes lag jumps easily over 60ms and makes mouse feel like drunk, but Game scene is fast. HDTVtest.co.uk measured only 21ms which is very good result. I cant measure it myself to verify it but as an avid PC gamer I can tell that lag is definetly not an issue. Also there is 4:4:4 support in game scene so no blurred text issues here.

However, dont try 3D with this TV...
