'American Idol' Season 11 on FOX HD - Page 7

Keep in mind that Survivor has only aired for two weeks. Idol's only competition back when it was just one hour on Wednesday night was dreadful.

I figure there is a bit of reality show stuff going when you have the classic choice of The Osmonds (Eben Franckewitz ) and The Jacksons (David Leathers) with the choice being the Osmonds. I figure David Leathers is a shoe-in for the 13th male to be added to the show.

Reality show is adding the 13th... trying to duplicate The X Factor's dramatic I made a mistake. For that matter all of these aren't singing contests... rather reality shows. If they were singing contests they would be on PBS and then quickly cancelled.

The news only gets worse. Luckily for Idol "The Hollywood Round" or whatever they call it now, is over, so there is a good chance the ratings might improve next week.

Oh there is no question this is a television "show" first and a talent competition second. I have no problem with the basic reality show formula.

I went back and looked at the final numbers for the first live shows last season. Wednesday improved over the previous week by only 5%, however Thursday improved by 15%.

I actually thought that those numbers would be higher, and that more people waited for the "live" singing to begin.

I absolutely hate the final 24 rounds, it is mostly fast forward through the whole show. It is just a recap of what we just saw.

Does anyone know what chairs they had in vegas? They look a lot like chairs I saw in staples.

I wanted to see one of the rejects chunk the chair in the water.

I watched my wife suffer through last week's episodes today. Literally 3 hours of the "judges" making up stupid **** to say to build fake drama before telling them they did or didn't make it. That's quality TV right there.

That's what DVRs are for.....1 hour of "program plus commercials time" takes about 15 minutes to DVR through - stopping to hear just the last (new) performance they would show of each person making the walk and the final decision.

I thought you had already seen the show in the past.

Has it always been this bad? It probably has but my mind attempts to block it out. I think maybe around season 5 they started doing the stupid long walk to the judges bit so that they could maximize the camera time on the faces of the people that got rejected. Such a terrible portion of the Idol process.

Yes, you've told us how bad it is for at least the past three seasons.

So You Think You Can Dance is bad too so don't forget to remind us when that show starts again. It's your duty to tell us we're dumb for watching this crap and that we should be watching the shows you like instead.

Drama! Speaking of which, which guy are they making the 13th tonight? My money's on the "gentle giant".

Looking past the whinny blubbering, which isn't hard to do, Jermaine Jones has the most interesting voice of the whole bunch, IMO.

Is it me or does Colton Dixon look like a recycled Howard Jones?

He's got an interesting voice, but lacks any real presence when he sings. I fast forwarded through a bunch of performances tonight but despite not enjoying the arrangement, I like Philip Phillips. He's basically just Dave Matthews, but I like the sound of his voice. My fear is that the Justin Bieber looking kid is going to get voted in. He was simply dreadful. That Ledet kid was amazing. I expected I would like Grimm more, but his cover of Moves Like Jagger was really bad.

Probably the best thing to come out of X Factor.

Pretty weak performances overall, no one really stood out for me. Here is to hoping the girls do better!

Embarrassing, all around.

Boy, I heard nothing but safe, by-the-numbers performances and the "judges" again fawning over every note they sang as if they'd never heard music before. This when I usually give up but maybe the women can come up with something exciting.

I "watched" each performance for five seconds. That was about what each performance was worth. The worst to me was the guy who "shrieked" True Colors. Rarely does a singer survive to the next week after attempting a Cindy Lauper song. Check out youtube for Anna Graceman's performance of the same song on AGT last summer, which got her booted despite a very good performance.

I skipped past all the judges' commentary. I'm betting I didn't miss anything.

The winner of The Voice got on the show by singing Lauper, but I hated his rendition of Time After Time. Too many vocal gymnastics. That version of True Colors last night was a million times worse.

My predictions...

Definitely In:

Joshua Ledet - Heads and shoulders above others when it comes to singing. Aaron Marcellus and Adam Brock WISH they could sing like Joshua.

Heejun Han - Just too DAMN likeable to not get through.

Phil Phillips - Ditto


Should be Nervous:

Reed Grimm - I kinda dug the jazzy "Moves Like Jagger"... until he started to drum.

Colton Dixon - Only because he looked okay on the piano and he has gotten a ton of TV time.

Jeremy Rosado - One of the better performances of the night. Would have stood out more if the judges didn't LOVE EVERYONE!!! (and everyone is BEAUTIFUL!!!)

Chase Likens - Only because he is the only country singer (and that is a powerful Idol voting bloc) and has looks to carry him.

Creighton Fraker - I really like his voice. Did not like his song choice. That voice should be movin' and groovin', not dragging out power ballads.


Should be No Chance in Hell:

Eben Frankenwitz - Just TURRIBUL!!! But you never know with those 16 year old girls with cell phones.


No Chance in Hell:

Aaron Marcellus - Who are you? Why have we never seen you before?

Jermaine Jones - It was kinda awkward watching him sing. He really should think about going into Opera with that terrific bass voice.

Adam Brock - There are others who do what he does better in this competition.

Deandre Brackensick - Decent singer, it is almost impossible to be that bland with that great of a hair.

I'm not sure if I can take another season of the judges telling every single contestant that they are a star. Whatever happened to actually giving people real critiques? Remember back when they actually told people when they were not great? I really miss that. I used to enjoy watching the judging part, but now I just fast forward through because it's all the same.

I thought the Osmond kid should not have gone through, but I was OK because I was sure the other kid was going in. I have no problem with giving Jermaine another chance, but Eben was horrible. Bad song choice and he was all over the place.

Will the power of the little girl vote be enough to put Eben through? Dude was terrible. I know the judges loved the long haired guys falsetto song, but I thought it was dreadful. Seems like a nice guy and I remember seeing him in at least one past Idol season, but bleehhhhhhh.

My favorite of the girls, Jenn Hirsh, murdered an Adele song. And I don't mean that in a good way. She was awful. Reminds you how amazing Adele sings. Only 3 of the girls impressed me. Hollie Cavanagh (the girl with the Liverpool accent), the tall girl who Steven said was moist, and Jessica Sanchez. That's 2 more girls than guys that were impressive.
