Jessica - once again the absolute worst singer in the group number. And then she destroyed (not in the good way) a classic Queen track, and then played the Daddy angle for faux sympathy votes on her song of choice. If she were any more boring and by-the-numbers, she'd be a Kardashian.
Skylar - I almost deleted the show from my DVR after she completely butchered a Queen song and then the judges praised it. Off-key for almost the entire song. Terrible. Send her home for that. I have no idea what that crapfest of a song was she sang as her personal choice, but it started terribly and finished just as poorly. Was it amazing in the middle? I dunno, I didn't listen to it because the beginning was such amateurish dogsh**.
Jacob...err Joshua - Hate his style of singing. Fast forwarded through 99 percent of his singing. Judges stood up after both per usual. I'm sure his usual vocal fireworks were on display.
Elise - poop on a stick. I think she's pretty. She has a nice tone. But she makes the stupidest vocal choices I've ever heard a music teacher make. She made me hate the Queen song she sang. And one of the judges claimed it was better than the original. I hope that was just a mistake on their part and they meant to say something else, because her take on the song was embarrassing. I'm stupid and thought her 2nd song was a John Mayer cover, but it was in fact a Hendrix song that Mayer made more famous than Hendrix did. Either way she turned it into a flaming bag of sh** and threw it on the collective doorstep of America. Atrocious.
Phillip "Dave Matthews" Phillips - WTF was that? First he chose Fat Bottomed Girls and then just gyrated slowly and awkwardly on stage like a puppet whose strings had all been cut except for one. Granted he'd never sing songs like that, but if you're going to sing THAT particular Queen song, feel it. You're singing about women with big asses. Look like you're singing a song about women with BIG FINE ASSES. Go kneel before the Queen of all big fine asses and sing the song. She's right there behind the judging desk. Go pay tribute to one the most legendary Fat Bottomed Girls. Then as his song of choice he bravely chose to sing a song by the guy everyone always says he's ripping off (in voice and mannerisms). Brave...and stupid. Stupid because he picked a DMB song that wasn't even a hit. Sing something people know, dummy! The only time that song works for DMB is when they turn it into a 15 minute jam Live in concert. Doing a 90 second version of it was just frickin dumb.
Hollie - Zzzzzzzzzzzz I cant even remember which Queen song she farted her way through. That's how forgettable she's become. And then she ended the show by cheating and singing a song she already sang once. Good game, coward. You're going home.
Man, I sound angry. Bad TV will do that to ya.
Wow, tell us what you really think. You know what makes me angry... bad, over the top reviews by people who fast forward their way through performances based on their own predetermined prejudices.
Sure, I tend to agree with you on Jessica and Joshua, but they weren't all THAT bad last night. We totally disagree on Skylar. Both of her songs were great. The judges thought so, I thought so, and for the first time in three years, I voted. Guess who I voted for... Skylar (10 times). As she sang for her first song, "The Show Must Go On," and she has definitely placed her own "Tattoos on This Town."
As for the other three, Elise was great on her Queen song (I Want it All) but not so much on that Jimi Hendrix WTF POS (Bold as Love). Philip was good on both songs, but not being much of a Dave Matthews fan, I wasn't familiar with "The Stone" but I kinda liked it. As for Hollie, she did an acceptable job on her Queen song, "Save Me" (which it probably won't) and then gave a tremendous performance on "The Climb." So what if she sang it before? Others have done that in the past and if it keeps her on the show, then good for her. Unfortunately, I think Hollie will likely be the one to go home tonight.
So, I may not be the music connoisseur you are since I only have 7,000+ songs on my iPod, but I know what I like and overall, I liked last night's show. The only two exceptions for me were Hollie's first song and Elise's second.
