Koyaanisqatsi on Blu; German release region free?

What I could find on German sites says it's region B only.

Koch is usually region B.

I have a PS3...is it region free???

I've had this BD for a while. It's Region B locked. Worth getting a Region Free player for though! It's FANTASTIC!

Reggio said about a million years ago (ok, it was 2008) that Criterion would be reissuing the entire trilogy. No word on it since, so either they're taking their time with it or he misspoke.

I need to order this asap...

OK, those shots look anything but HD.

They look HD but not newly scanned from the camera negative. It can look better.

this movie was never really an optical master piece when it comes to image quality, even when it was first released.

More importantly, someone on Blu-ray.com has indicated that the soundtrack is pitched-down on the German release.

I watched it. Sharpness is uneven as in the original photography. I saw no DNR or sharpening issues. The main problem this transfer shows are dirt and instability. Tons of speckles, dirt and sometimes scratches in some sequences (mostly the nature/cloud footage in the beginning). The archival material is scratched etc., of course, as it has always been in this film. The transfer has too much gate weave and a few times serious jumping.
The film needs some restoration and digital clean up from a new, more stable scan of the negative to look its best on Blu Ray. As it is it's superior to the 2 DVDs (MGM and IRE) but falling short considerably of what it could look like.
The sound of this now 30 year old film in DTS-MA 5.1 is ok but it does sound dated and could do with a new remix to improve fidelity.

Sadly, it isn't.

As far as Powaqqatsi is concerned it's cleaner and rather stable. If the transfer were cleaned up I would recommend it. As it is it's still too dirty at times compared to the standards we are used to now, we DI spoilt brats.

It's available "online" for the same price as air.

Region-Free Bluray/DVD players are not expensive I paid $130.00 for the Toshiba and it plays all regions A, B, C as well as all DVD regions. Allowed me to purchase many Bluray titles not available or not yet available, Alexander the Great, 1492, El Cid, Strike Back (UK Release very inexpensive for seasons 1 & 2) and many more either Region B or 1080i/50.

It's certainly not worth it for these titles, unless the upcoming Criterion versions are abominable botchjobs.

Have "upcoming Criterion versions" been confirmed, or is it still wishful thinking at this point?

Mentioned by Reggio at a screening several years ago and most likely confirmed in a recent newsletter clue (nobody has proposed a plausible alternative). Reggio also has a placeholder page on their site.

So if the IRE DVD that was available through koyaanisqatsi.org was framed at 1.33:1 and this disc is considered the director's preferred version, does that also mean Reggio prefers the 1.33:1 framing for this film?

Wasn't the film originally framed at 1.85:1 when shown theatrically?
