Martin Logan Motion 12 or Arx 3

I like what I read about the Arx line, but I now see a pair of Martin Logan Motion 12's on sale for $600 and wondering if I should jump on that instead.
Any advice / recommendations ?

I've listened to the Motion 12s. They were nice. Nice mid-range. Highs were OK, bass was a little light for their size (IMO).

Just based on a few user reviews of the ARX A3 I would believe that it is a better speaker and would have more bass output. Plus the Motion series floorstanders seems to be on the way to extinction.

The ARX A3s have a 30 day trial so.......

A3s all the way IMO, I have the A1s and A2s and plan on getting the A3s as well. You'll be amazed at the XBL2 woofers, great impactful bass for a 5.25" woofers.

If I had the money in my hand and wanted some tower speakers I would get the Monitor Audio M6 speakers or the PSB Image T5 speakers (Audio Advisor website).

IMO they are better-sounding speakers than the ones you mentioned.

The Magneplanar MMG, for $600, is probably better than any of them, but you need at least 140 watts at 4 ohms to run them and they are much wider than towers; 15 inches wide. They take up space.

If I had the space for them I would buy the Magneplanars in a heartbeat; they are jaw-droppers!! Simply awesome.

They ALL need a good sub!

Thanks for the quick response and it sounds I don't need to jump on the Motion 12 deal.
I will take a look at the MMG's as well.

Oh have you heard the Arx speakers? Side by side? In home trial of each? Or just a fanboy statement to push your favorite brand?

You can praise your prefer speakers all you want but without hearing other brands that are brought and say that yours is better doesn't help anyone and isn't useful.

I have Motion 12s in a 2channel system (well my dad's which I got for him ). Before giving it to him I hooked em up to my 5.1 system in a family room and thought they sounded pretty good. But to be honest I would only buy em again if they were on sale again (that one newegg sale). Regarding Arx speakers , never heard them so cant comment sorry

Jeez! More FUD. The MMGs don't "need" 140 watts at 4 ohms. If you go to their site, they run some in their office on like 25 watts.

They do need seem to need more room to get the best out of them for 2 channel listening and will need a sub. They are a great deal for the money if you have the space.

I heard the Magnaplanar's at a dealer. They were the MG 12's a little bigger than the MMG's. Those are only sold thru Magnapan I believe. The sound coming from the MG12's was like nothing I ever heard.. I will own a pair soon. The MG12's are $1200 for a pair. They will blow the Martin's out of the water.

Have you tried the Arx speakers? How do they compare to the PSB's or Monitor Audio's? I've never heard Arx, however they tend to get pretty good reviews. I'm just curious how they stack up and what qualities you specifically like in the PSB's or MA's over the Arx since they seem to be pretty well received by those on the forum who have bought them.

commsysman, what didn't you like about the Arx speakers? You have brought up that you thought PSB (amongst others) were better in several threads, including one where I expressed interest, and I am interested why. Just wondering.

-Cheers

He's never heard the ARX speakers. Not many have. But those that have heard them seem to really like them and no one has had any complaints.
