I agree, except I want to see features added that will actually have me wanting to use my Echo. I plugged it in over a week ago to take a firmware update and didn't see any improvement in playing mkv's streamed from my server so I unplugged it again. I'll probably plug it in again over the weekend just to see if there's a new update. If not, the ceton logo gets extinguished for another week. wink.gif

One improvement that Win 8 has over Win 7 for HTPC use is it finally displays photos with Exif rotation properly. This might not be a big deal for most but it is a nice "fix" to have.

Yes, a TV's additional feature may masking this. In my case, I'm using it on a PC monitor which has not special processing. Echo is definitely not worthy of putting on any of my HDTVs yet.

Dang! I was in hopes....

Here after using the 2013.122 for a while is what I think.

1. Picture quality is very good to excellent for me in "native" mode on my "picky" Pioneer Elite Panels.
2. Have had one lock up but otherwise, very stable.

We have gotten used to the new scan window for >> and <<. They do need to make that window larger. As it stands, it is just a little too small which makes it easy to overrun in to the recorded show. I like the idea though. Also, it seems you need to "mute" the sound as it will continue to play in the background...

On the previous f/w and in WMC on my HTPC >> and << had a full screen preview. I just found out but I guess the balloon screen preview has always been there when using >| and |< . I think that this issue will be resolved soon on the echo as I'm pretty sure ceton wants to get that functionality back for it's user base.

I never tried/saw this. Did it rewind a little bit after you stopped scanning so as to not miss anything when playback is resumed?

No, not for me. You need to back it up and right now, until full screen becomes available, it is hard to do since you cannot see while you are backing up!

Could anyone point me on the direction or give me a brief update of the current state of this, not followed for about 6 weeks so I was just checking in to see what's improved or still waiting for.

Live and Recorded TV work very well for me. Others are still reporting de-interlacing issues as the echo doesn't pass 1080i but rather 1080p. The PQ for me is fantastic as is the AQ. Every bit as good as the HTPC feeding it and that has a nVidia video card in it. The playback of mkv is still limited to constant bit rate and medium bit rate. HD Audio in any form and dts are still not functional for mkv playback.

Not true. The firmware updates from January have made the DVR functionality acceptable.

What Echo has to do with any DVR functionality?

Actually the latest beta is known to break the FF and RWD full screen preview. So it is a step backwards.

Not sure about you, but I purchased my echo and my infinitv4 to replace the Comcast DVR... as of FW: 2013.122, recording and playback audio and video works well. Yes, the FF and RW preview has been bugged by this FW, but I have no doubt will be fixed in the next.

Yes, some of them do but instead of those movies not playing, not one of my movies play. Mkv's with a low bit rate and plain old Dolby Digital did "kinda of" play (played with massive stuttering) on my last setup (my main pc with media directly on it's HD's) but now that I switched my Echo to my htpc that pulls it's content from my server via network drives... no movies play.

Nearly all of my content is stored on network shared drives that are not local to the echo. I should specifically try something that is on one of the drives in the HTPC to see if that changes things.

Anyone want to speculate on what capabilities the eventual Android Ice-Cream-Sandwich update will likely bring about?

Will we be running "apps" from the Android App Store, much like how the Xbox has apps? Or will we be navigating to websites like Netflix via a web browser instead of relying on an App?

If that's the case, would it be as simple as "if it works on Chrome, it'll work on Echo"?



Netflix, HBO-Go, Amazon Prime, Rhapsody, and Comcast-on-Demand support would all be welcome additions that the Xbox 360 currently supports... and I use(d), some occasionally and some frequently, on 360.

Just opened up my echo settings in browser and I have the option to update to : 2013.129.1538

Anyone know what this update includes? I was under the impression that there was no Omega testing past 122?

I have them stored on a PC with codecs installed so maybe that helps but I'm sure it uses the resources of the Host HTPC with WMC installed.

It'll probably be a Valentine's present instead of a Christmas present now.. Have now idea and don't care to speculate. We'll just have to wait and see.
