I still think that you will be glad you went with the echo in due time.

I found little info on Windows Media Player- Windows Media Center Music Player with regards to setting up a music collection. I had no idea WMP and WMC Music player were linked together. I ended up experimenting with rips and album art, how it displays and shows up in Media Center. While frustrating, I ended up ripping cd's to 320kbps MP3's which works well with both the HTPC, Xbox 360 and a variety of other devices. Album art worked for the most part and there is an ability to edit if need be. I look at this as another effort to have all the media work on all devices the same way to keep it simple with high WAF.

You should be able to get this fixed by removing the media folder on the Echo, reboot both the Echo and HTPC. Once the Echo is booted up and connected, add the media folder again and let it update.

Has anyone gotten the Echo to work with MyMovies successfully? I did a quick search but came up empty. I know people had problems early on but was wondering if Ceton fixed this capability.

* Also can you use a USB Bluetooth Media center remote (like the Gyration) to control the echo from another room?

I don't use MyMovies but MediaBrowser works fine. Is MyMovies written for extenders?

I believe it works on the Xbox 360 so I think the answer is yes...

Works fine for me on my Echo and 360... I believe the transcode option is broken on the Echo, but I don't use that feature. What issues are you having?

Does My Movies allow easy integration of local and recorded tv series or movies? Main question- could you put 'recorded tv' folder into its library and it would separate movies and tv?

Not to bust in on this conversation, but Recorded HD Tv wil do what you are looking for I believe. Media Browser might as well, if you add the recording folder to it's path.

I have RecordedTV in my MediaBrowser library. It works for everything but Copy Protected content.

Do you have a link to a setup guide for media browser? I am growing old waiting for TV episode integration for MyMediaCenter app. I need another option. I want to be able to browse seasons of TV as well as movies and playback on the Echo. Don't mind if it's app based or WMC interface plugin based...

I have not done anything other than added the folder to MediaBrowser. It is as unorganized as it is in WMC, which does not have the sorting you seek either I don't think.

It does work for copy protected content here.

I will clarify. It works on the echo for copy protected content but not on my HTPC because I use MPC-HC for playback there. I suppose I could set MB to use the WMC player for *.wtv files and they would play on the HTPC.

^^^ This plugin does have the sorting your looking for.

MB is limited, and needs plugin's to do this. I have not tried with protected content.

This is getting WAY off track, but even for MB you will want to sort your stuff into folders.

There are MANY other tools to help with this. MCEBuddy, MCM etc.

I think MyMovies may also have some capabilities in this area. RecordTVHD does do this, but personally I have found it a tad unstable.

I am also sorta annoyed with how long TV Collection support is taking in My Media Center. It is sort-of hilarious, My Media Center supports movies, by the Echo can't play 'em. The Echo supports TV recordings, but My Media Center can only handle one directory.

Ha ha, true. It's clear their resources have shifted entirely to the Echo platform change and possibly merging the host pc plugins.

Ideally that change will address hkind of issues, but the way it's going it seems like we should not plan on it any time soon.

My bad, I kind of thought everyone just used folders. Thats the easiest way no matter what your doing. Recorded Tv HD has been pretty good for me. no real issues. But I only use it on extenders. My HTPC is in a VM.

I use the free version v2.05 and "Auto-rename files and folders for all titles" is in the tools menu and doesn't appear to be disabled. Sorry, but I won't be testing that function out for you. I spent a lot of time manually setting up my folders and naming everything. I'm not about to click it just to see if it doesn't mess up my library.

I hear you there. With the exception of RecordedTV for WMC, I have my stuff organized already and I'd hate to see something automatic make a mess of it.

Yeah, the only thing that scares me more than that in MCM is the "Refetch All Titles" menu option. And while I love MCM it seems to bounce back and forth between stable and not pretty frequently (I know a lot of that has to do with the various 3rd party sources)

My luck, I'd do an auto rename or fetch all titles, on one of the days that it decides to update the metadata and rename the folders all in Swahili.

I haven't had much trouble with MCM. I have it pointed at themoviedb.org for movies (IMDB secondary), and thetvdb.com for my TV shows. Once in a while it'll pick up a poster with foreign text but it's easy enough to fix that locally. I've created a few obscure movies like Macon County Line and added some backdrops to other movies that didn't have any. I've been helping out on thetvdb with Austin City Limits as well. The person adding new episodes to that show hasn't been filling in the overview and episode image lately. I wait a week or so and if it still isn't updated I add whatever it needs. Free metadata is one of the best things about HTPCs. I don't mind spending a few minutes each week to give back to the community.

The TV Series functionality of My Movies 4 is based on local TV based media - TV series, episodic content, multi-disc sets, etc. It's not necessarily designed for recorded TV - though I think some people have attempted to use it that way. As mentioned already, the Recorded TV plugin is probably what you're looking for locally recorded content.

I think my issues with MCM are related to the size of my library. I have a couple thousand movies, and dozens of TV shows (some of which have hundreds of episodes) and I don't think it likes that. Some builds are better than others but often I can't fetch metadata for more than 3 or 4 titles before it just freezes and has to be forced to restart. Most of the TV Series I follow are either very old or very popular so there isn't much difficulty getting metadata for them, but I certainly wouldn't mind adding some if I were to find a show that didn't have any. I'm pretty sure the only thing I added metadata for on my box was the P-90X series, and it technically isn't a TV show anyway.

Hmm - it works just as well as MediaBrowser for me.. once it in the right directory format I haven't had a problem with either one.

I like that MyMovies is lighter than MB - but the lack of multiple libraries keeps me in MB for now (I know you can do categories, but I just want to have a Kids Movie collection and a normal movie collection and not worry about Metadata.)

That's good to know - when MM4 came out with the TV episode support, I thought it was weird that it didn't really work with recorded TV content... now it seems to make more sense why it doesn't out of the box (speaking from a MM perespective). I just let WMC save my recordings to a single directory and don't mess with trying to folder/categorize or anything like (one less moving part IMO) - since the WMC recordings may not always have all the proper meta data, I can see how just pointing to a flat recorded directory might have issues.

On the multiple libraries - I think I see what you mean... but for me I have all of my kid's movies WITH our movies and simply use a filter to easily switch between the two. I think if I set the actual categories, it would be more robust - I suppose it's a preference between moving physical data from one folder to another vs. modifying the category of said movie, but I haven't had to do that... yet

Yep - that was good when the kids were young, but now that they are a bit older there is a lot of grey area. Like I want 'The Mummy' series in the kids area, and 'Ironman' series in the adult area

Maybe I need to look at doing my own categories... Probably will just see what Ceton comes up with - just not seeing a future in MB now.

Are you guys happy with your ceton product. I am about to pull the trigger on a TV tuner and I looking for opinions. Based on what I have read, it seems as though the products when it works does what it needs to do, but has a lot of hiccups. I read one post where some guy every two days needed to restart his system to avoid missing recordings. So would you buy it again?

One thing that concerns me is that the company uses 3rd party forum such as this one to handle a good bit of their customer service issues. Lastly if I do decided to go with the product, is there an advantage or disadvantage with going the pci e card or the external option. My cpu case is plenty large to handle an additional pci e card.

Best
