The whole discussion is a pretty much a moot point because Comcast is switching all channels to encrypted. We have already been notified in our area, central Il.

I would like to know where the details are that were promised for the Echo?

So what's the expected feedback loop for those faithful purchasers stuck on the sideline. Are the beta folks allowed to spread the word here or at other venues? Myself personally I am excited for the apps beta, specifically since I'm using 4 cards in the home now. Depending on capabilities I may keep all 4 or return two prior to the Amazon return window.

I think we just need to be patient while they work through the beta period . IMHO, it could be very unfair to Ceton to have a ton of public discussion during the beta period because there could be a number of fairly major issues that would turn people off (even though they'll probably get fixed during the beta period before the product is available to the general public). My hunch is that if things go well in the early rounds, they'll open things up to a larger audience before official release.

Here's a quick review a guy from TGB did... It's on post 4 with pictures and all.

http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/...hp?f=33&t=2040

Also James/Motz said for people with iPhone that it is a very restrictive beta as Apple only lets you have 100 spots. [If I recall correctly]

Anyways hope the beta is going well for all participating!

I must say, this app is just what is needed! Here is a great example of functionality. We have three phones using the app beta. Last night, my wife and I were at the kitchen table, and she asked me to make sure and record The French Open Tennis Tournament tomorrow(this morning). I was using the guide, searching, and hitting record when I got to it on ESPN2. My daughter was in front of the TV, using the app as remote, as well as scrolling through the "Premieres" for the week and hitting the record button as needed. My son was downstairs on the Xbox looking around the RecordedTV till he found a Top Gear he wanted, fired it up, and watched. This is how media center should work, and this is how media center should be controlled. So far, any issues are very minor. It just plain works.

Lot's of questions hopefully i can answer them all for you guys.

As for extender, keep hanging in there. The beta acceptance emails go out around July 15th so expect more news about the device around then.

As for the apps beta. Android and WP7 users feel free to email me and put AVS in the subject line: beta (at) cetoncorp (dot) com

At lot of people have PMed me and that is cool as well. Friday the 8th we are looking to expand the beta so you should see another round of emails go out again.

Don't register for the forums if you did not receive an email acceptance as we have to go through and manually approve everyone. Makes my job harder.

Anyone using the apps are free to discuss them of course or takes screens or whatever you would like. I think a lot of people know it is still early beta and that we are working out a few kinks.

Any more app stuff let me know. Should someone start it's own thread somewhere?

That is frustrating. I asked specifically if we would hear details about the Echo before July 15 and you said yes, in the next few weeks. That was 4 weeks ago...
IDK, but those seem to be details about what's going on with it before July 15, are they not?

So, the "details" we got before July 15 are that we won't get any details until July 15 which was the original question? Nope.

This is exactly why a lot of companies say NOTHING until they're ready to ship a product. The details and product will come when they're ready - just be patient.
I have no patience for not being honest with people or not admitting when you make a mistake. So, sigh and try to justify it all you want...

I wasn't justifying anything. I was just saying that impatience and lack of understanding is the reason why a lot of companies reveal absolutely nothing that a product is even being developed until it's ready. Saying anything before that point tends to raise expectations and cause people to get cranky when they don't get fed a regular stream of information.

But I'm pretty sure that whining about it isn't going to make the Echo ship any sooner .
Don't buy one from this unscrupulous comany then.

Companies have reasons to be mum about product development.

Ceton is going to make an extender that is going into beta in six weeks. When the beta is released we'll have details. I would imagine the details will be release before July 15.. on July 14.

People like you are the reasons a lot of companies don't release ANY information. The tiniest little thing that gets changed during production and the company gets jumped on. If you don't want incomplete information, or information that is subject to change, then wait until these are sitting on store shelves with the specs on it.

Until then, things change during product development including information release dates.

Would you like Ceton to have a disclaimer on every single post saying "Subject to change"?

I am only one developer I can only do so much. Plans and timelines change of course (especially for announcing specifics) and we are working as hard as we possibly can to get the extender into everyone's house. As soon as we have exact details nailed down and we are ready we will absolutely let everyone know.

Like I said the beta acceptance emails go out on the 15th of July which we stated when we announced the beta program so that still has not changed at all rest assured.

We have some really cool and exciting stuff going on with the extender so I know I am personally excited for it. We do have the apps beta going on so if you aren't in the beta email me and hopefully that will help hold everyone over for a bit.

Is there any word on when the app beta will be available for those of us with iPads?

Amen. I'm following this post and I think that people need to keep in mind this isn't a cure for cancer we are waiting on...

Dear crbaldwin, I promise you nobody reads these posts to keep up to date on your complaints.

Of course things change, but after a couple weeks when I asked about it again and he realized that this information would not be coming he could have said "Sorry, it turns out you will have to wait until July 15 for any more details" and I would have been fine with it. Instead he waited until 4 weeks went by and then said details will be available July 15 and acted like he never said otherwise. All I ask for is a little respect and integrity but apparently that's too much to ask for...

Of course not. They read to find out whether or not they are stealing cable...

We did get more info we got the ability to sign up for the beta, details on the different beta's and when each one would occur. It's been stated since the beta was announced that it would be July 15th so I don't see how this is new news to you?

My guess, but since iOS is so limited we are probably out of luck with that one, I'm in the same boat as you, iPhone and gf's iPad.

Do mean limited in terms of number of iStore beta participants? I thought they had indicated a while back that the beta for iOS devices would initially be limited to iPhones, but that it would be expanded to include iPads at some point. If the app is different for the iPad, they might be able to double their iOS beta participants (what's the limit, something like 100 for an iOS app?), but that might still leave us out of luck in the lottery if they got a lot of interest.

My phone is a Blackberry (my company pays for it, so I'm not going to complain ... too much ) which they haven't indicated support for and probably wouldn't make sense to support given how RIM is doing lately. So that leaves me with the iPad as my only option for now. If (when?) RIM goes under, I suspect my company will start supplying us with iPhones instead (we can currently supply our own iPhone and they'll pay for the monthly service fees), but that obviously won't expand the number of beta users allowed for iDevice betas.

The ipad can be used on the beta but we only have a few people testing, almost everyone (99%) are iPhone or iPod. It is not yet optimized for iPad or android tablets.

I can see how that can be frustrating and I will absolutely try to keep you guys up to date as much as I can. I do apologize for not posting at least that after a few week.

The reason iOS is so limited is just the limitations that are restricted to a developer account where you can only register 100 devices total without shelling out more and more cash for more developer accounts. Also more developer accounts = more provisioning profiles, which equals different types of builds, and absolutely horrible to manage.

You do realize that they guy responding is one of the developers meaning he works full time on development. Updating forums with information is secondary to that and I highly doubt he keeps track of everything he's said to everyone about dates and times.

He answered your question about receiving more information politely and you called him a liar. You sound like a 5 year old. "Mommy you said we'd be there in 10 minutes and it's been 11!!! You lied!"
