It's interesting that Vivitek is making this machine in a wide variety of colors. It's also worth noting that they are naming the colors after cars ie lamborghini yellow, BMW blue, Ferrari red etc.
Companies don't usually produce machines in a wide variety of colors unless they are very sure they can sell a huge number of them.
I expect to see a large marketing campaign attached to this machine focused mainly on consumers with home entertainment as it's main purpose.

That guy from Vivitek knows how to roll.. that is some serious style.

last year:

this year:

I'm getting the Q5 to replace my Q2 once it's released. My guess is we'll see it in the US on Amazon around Mid July (same time as last year). I use it to watch TV at night. If I fall asleep, it's no big deal, I just let it run all night.

How did you like the Q2 compared to the Optoma ML500. I wouldn't mind trying the Q5

the q5 wont beat the ml500. its specs are about the same and the ml500 is cheaper.

I had the ML500, didnt like it too much and sold it. The Q5 looks better

Has anyone had a good look at the remote for the Q5? Does it happen to include a power button? The three things that would make the Qumi better IMO would be a remote power button, reliable focus, and improved functionality of the media player, in that order. If those issues are not addressed, then I see no reason to upgrade to the Q5 from my Q2.

I still have the Q2 and the ML500 is gone.

I liked the brightness of the ML500 but it was too loud for me and I have a high tolerance for fan noise in general.

I've used the Q2 on the 142" 2.8. If I get it near eye level for max gain, it looks decent for watching HDTV. It would be great if the Q5 had an extra 100 lumens over the Q2.

I'll have both once it comes out and will do a little side by side comparison for anyone interested.

The fan noise didn't bother me that much, it was the sharpness of the projector. If the Q5 has good sharpness and the focus is good on it, I would get it without hesitation. I got a 72in Carada screen in my room that is basically up for decorations, since I don't use it, I could use that in my room for sure. It will probably give me 26-28ftL

action_jackson: As I said in previous posts, Q5 should have a glass optic right now and power remote is improved. Mayby look at my older posts and there are some videos and the pictures

I am interested in comparation of Q2 vs Q5. thanks!

I guess I missed that video earlier. I am glad to see the power on the remote, and the improved optics, maybe it will be able to retain a proper focus now. I can't wait to see the comparisons!

I wonder if Netflix, youtube, Hulu, etc... could be played inside the browser?

Well, I am not going to use Wifi or web browser in qumi anyway. It seems senseless for me.

Any updates on a release? my best guess would be mid July, that's when the original QUMI was released on Amazon.

Who knows. Marketing of the Q5 (not to mention the new LG LED projectors) has in my opinion been awful. Like pulling nails to get info. Doesn't LG have relationships with media persons to provide product and get reviews? Do the Vivitek persons even know their Q5 has a glass lens upgrade from the Q2 plastic? Doesn't seem like it based on some Vivitek replies to questions by potential consumers. I think as well, some component sourcing issues have impacted release dates.

Honestly, if I am coming out with a new product, I am working to build up interest, trumpting the improvements, and getting the word out through media sources. Do LG and Vivitek even want to sell these products?

I see it now on their Webpage, you would think it was available for purchase:

650USD instead 550USD like the lgpb60g. another $100? don't think so for the same spec.

What happen to this thread? Where is the Vivitek Qumi Q5 now?

I'll get my review sample this friday. smile.gif

So this projector comes with 3D-Ready (via DLP Link) ?

I don't have much experience with the newer 3D ready projectors and I have tried to learn on the other threads of the other projectors that have 3D ready.
What I want to know is ? since it's via DLP link ? does that mean I do ? or don't have to pay extra for a external converter to watch this in 3D ?
Or is it the Optoma HD 33 that does not need a external converter box to watch in 3D ?

Weird right?
