Panasonic DMP BDT500 - Page 11

Has anyone figured out how to enable 2D-3D conversion? The user guide shows conversion settings under "signal format" on page 27, but I see no such setting on any menu on the player, and the remote has no button for toggling any 3D conversion mode.

I talked to BB yesterday to match the Amazon price but they refused. I ordered mine today from Amazon about $310 with free 2 days shipping. My current unit goes back to BB. It does not make sense why BB does not match Amazon. It is better to get some business than no business at all.

Does the BDT500 remote have a "display" button or quick launch button on the remote that shows video and audio bitrates along with movie time progress?

Not that I've found. With a disc playing you have to go to Option -> Operation Menu -> Playback Information Window. The display doesn't list any info about title time played/remaining, only video codec, bitrate, HDMI/Audio output info, etc. The "Status" button on the remote produces time information, but little else that's useful. This is an area that Panasonic could really improve upon.

Can Flac files with Audiophile 192kHz/24bit play via HDMI on the 500?

Brian,

I have some that I will try once I figure out how to play FLAC files on this unit. I navigate to Music, then USB and a screen pops up but quickly disappears. This is repeatable. I have a 1TB drive attached.

Has anyone had any success playing FLAC files? If so, how did you achieve this?

I am able to play flac via HDMI 96/24 but not the 192/24.

So does this mean you would have better success with using either the analog outputs or the optical ouputs in order to play 192/24?

This is a very minuscule issue, but can anyone tell me if this player can actually turn off the LED time display? For whatever reason, the previous Panasonic players don't have this extremely minor function. The OCD side of me prefers to be able to completely turn off the front display.

Okay, I'm encountering some playback/stability issues with my network connection when using wireless networking and running Netflix.

I can run Pandora for hours at a stint...no issues (I constantly switch between my 8 radio stations when I listen so I don't have to burn 'skips').

When using Netflix, I can usually get about 20 minutes into one selection. I will invariably lose lip-sync about 3 minutes in. Then, if I pause or scrub in any direction, I will get a stalled loading-progress-bar....which also never fails to turn into a Netflix error stating that this title is 'currently unavailable' and advising that I should try again later or simply play another title.

I then get this same error with EVERY OTHER TITLE I attempt to play. This then culminates in a fatal netflix error stating my network connection has failed.

The overall Netflix interface is also VERY sluggish.

After backing out completely and going into the network settings, my '500s network connection is left in the 'connecting' state until I physically remove the power cord from the back. Restarts did not help. Factory Default reset also did not help.

I completed the above cycle approximately 8 times between yesterday and today. Gonna contact Panasonic ASAP.

Anybody else having these issues?

NOTE: My Vizio TV with internal VIA app and Netflix interface (and wireless network connection) still works FLAWLESSLY with Netflix. I run a BrightHouse 40mbit (routinely tested) cable internet connection....so speed isn't an issue here. I was also able to stream dlna content from my W7 64bit laptop in 1080p without issue, so the speed of the wireless connection to the Panny '500 does not appear to be an issue either.

What dlna are you using? Does it allow Flac? I did not had that problem with NetFlix.

Corrected. It was my Anthem that was the problem.

I also encountered the wireless issues with the panasonic not acquiring an ip address automatically and having to turn the power off and back on. I solved that by having the player using a fixed IP adrress and reserving it thru my Netgear Router. It works much better right now with no internet drops. I also noticed some lipsync issues wit Netflix but they are random in nature. Hope this helps.

NetFlix has a problem with lipsync. Did anyone contact Panasonic to fix these issues?

I'll open an issue with them.

Guys check out the bdt 320 Page. I found out the netflix lip sync issue and how to fix it. I already had a series of conversations with Panasonic. They are aware the problem.
Basically, you have to turn off the quick start if you don't wanna see the lip sync issues. If you used the blu ray or dvd on your player since the last boot up then it causes lip sync issue. In that case I take out the disc out of the player and turn off and back on the player and same scenes that had lip sync problems goes away and never comes back. When the quick start is on with turning off the player doesn't get rid of the lip sync issue. You can un plug and plug it back in as a work around..i chose to turn quick start off.

I did this reset late last night (too late, really). A couple netflix tests show that it has fixed the problem. I'll advise more later.

Apparently, after going to firmware 1.31, this is necessary for some.

I quickly started playing several Netflix titles and they all worked much better.

More after I get off-shift tonight (12 hours).

Bring it, Beryl!

FYI: my issues happened regardless of my quickstart settings. I ran with it off almost the whole time...only turned it on to briefly troubleshoot. Glad it worked for you though.

NetFlix lipsync resolved but I can not use my downloaded remote from my I pad. And sometime there is no audio if when changed to a new movie. It is not complete fix. I reported the issue to Panasonic.

Of course. Turning off the quick start is just a work around. The reason why lip sync happens has something to do with having a disc in the player. And only turning the player on and off fixes it. Somehow with quick start enabled the player doesn't fully reset and when you turn it off and lip sync is still there. So even with quick start off you will have lip sync issues as long as you use the player part of the unit. I don't keep disc in the player and no issues with mine. If I wanna watch a movie, after I am done I take it out and reset the player by turning it off and turn on netflix then. Until next firmware update that's the only option it seems.
By the way, I have 135 inch screen with a projector. Is there really a difference in PQ between 320 and 500? Both with all the enhancement off of course. (chroma, super res and contrast etc. Off)

You can take out your disc in the player and unplug the player before you use netflix and that should fix the lip sync as well.

The manager called me who had a meeting with the blu ray engineer about it. They will fix it I think.
