The level cap is 40. They capped the characters at that regardless of skill/ability points. If you want a top tier pure class, it takes 109pts in that tree to unlock that destiny. The other 11 points or so can go anywhere else you choose.

But I am also listening to all the dialog, enjoying all the lore stones, and just basking in the game. I really love the story it tells, as well as the depth put into everything.

The thing that bugs me is level-capping the zones. I went to Detyre from Dalentarth around level 18. I did the first three zones and then realized main quest and faction quests were taking me to Erathell. I want to leave Detyre, but then I'm afraid when I come back at a higher-level all the loot will be locked at the level I entered and will be useless to me. It is unfortunate that the game penalizes you for not completely finishing one area before moving to another.

Yeah, there is a large debate on that on their forums. The "zones", if you will, have a set range, (ex 7-14), and it will set the range based off of your level when you enter the zone. Dungeons, on the other hand, set each time you enter. They are looking into possibly causing a zone reset, like in dungeons, every so many game days, which would be the best solution IMO. No idea if/when it will be addressed though.

Also, you cannot rebuy from trainers you already went to. If you trained there once, you are done with them. The only requirements is on how much of a skill you already know or need at the time.

I found a Blacksmithing book, and after Fateweaving to make room for it I read it and was told that I had already taken advantage of that. No idea how far back that was since little things like reading a book fade after dozens of hours. However, I find it weak that the developers would somehow let you find two copies of the same book yet only let you USE it once.

Good thing I save before stuff like Fateweaving so I can undo it when the plan goes sour...

Hang onto the book...it may be like training where you can only train once per "mastery" level, (0-3, 4-7, etc). If you used one on 0-3, try it when you are in the 4-7 range. Loot is random, unless you got it from a specific stash...but if you can only use one per playthrough, then it was an oversight to let more than one be found or drop.

I save before fateweaving too, as I like to hit all the trainers once I find a new set .

Yea this is actually a pretty big problem.

Explorers can go all over the map at level 1 but it ruins the game experience as everything is locked to the lowest level possible for that zone for the remainder of the game. So by level 25 you are owning everything when you truly shouldnt own everything until level 40.

Seems like two worlds and Divinity II are the only ones that got this right. There are no locked zones. If you go somewhere you have no business going to at level 1 the enemies will one shot you. Which means you need to level up then return later.

I dont understand why that concept is so hard to grasp by developers. For some reason even Bethesda can't get that down and only have tougher enemies show up as you level higher. Just have certain places that a level 1 player would get killed if they step foot in the area.

If I get desperate later, I can find where I sold it and try again...

A level 30 assassin trap juggling is so much fun . I can drop 18 instantly and watch baddies bounce all over the place while dropping a smoke bomb and assassinating their friends...so much fun! Still loving the game. The zone level cap is annoying me, as I am high level for most of the zone I just opened up. This won't be an issue after I cross the river to the other side, (all zones are 30-40 there), but I definately feel over powered for the zone I am in now.

I'm 38 and wrapping up things on the main continent...waaay over powered

Ditto.. The hardest I've come up against is an Orange and I barely have to use potions to help. Using your own forged weapons are always better then even the Purples we can find. When I start over again with a new character, I'll be sure to put it on HARD this time.

You can change it to hard now if you want to. Also, if you really want to challenge yourself, go with a pure assassin. The Might/Sorc trees turn everything into stomping grounds right away. I really had to be smart early on in assassination.

Yeah, game has gotten rather easy for warrior-mage toon even on hard difficulty. Someone on the main forums posted the level-ranges for all the zones from the guide. Basically, the western continent is capped at level 25. I'm level 26 and just reached the Cradle of Summer so I've basically out-leveled all the areas in Erathell and Detyre. Hopefully they'll address this in the next patch and find a way to keep the game challenging through the end.
Yeah, I tried changing it and got concerned when it mentioned that it would screw up achievements so I backed out. Not a problem, I tend to replay these type of games a few times over.. even when they are THIS big.

I just got across the map over to the right at level 35. I expect to max out before I 'finish' the main quest.

On a plus side, maxing out is a good thing on those zones because the loot table can drop the end game sets too. However, if you smith a lot, it may be hard to beat what you can make currently.

As for the warning, the only achievo it would mess up is if you started on HARD, and cranked it down for a fight or two. There is an achievo for beating the game on a complete hard mode playthrough. Other than that, it should have no affect on your other achievements.

Is there a list of all the valid Flawless parts for Blacksmithing?

I can (sometimes) get the second part of an item to absorb the attributes of the gem used in Mastercrafting it, so when I salvage it the item is Flawless. It's rather hit-and-miss, since some really decent equipment refuses to yield even Master-level parts over dozens of repeated salvagings. If I knew what I might eventually get, I could start with a part that might promote better.

Salvaging might not be as important if vendors on the other continent have better parts, but I'm not there yet. I am wondering how I manage to salvage Master rivets from a chakram occasionally, even though you don't build one with them. Of course that's better than the one time that I got nothing since salvaging failed...

I haven't found a good guide yet. Hopefully 38 Watch Wiki will come up with something soon. On another note, there may be something in the strategy guide that was just released, but I have yet too see a copy locally, (been at work all week).

I found one online guide that listed what parts you can upgrade with jewels, but I didn't find where it said you can or can't get every part to accept the qualities of every jewel. That's where a list of the valid parts would come in handy, so I don't waste time trying to get a rod that restores mana if it doesn't exist. I'm experimenting with what I'd really like to have, mostly fire damage stuff, and it's slow.

On the bright side, Flawless fulcrums are (usually) easy for when I get done unlocking that top-tier Sorcery Destiny and start spreading Ability points over to upgrade my bow output...

How do you upgrade parts with gems? Or do you just upgrade the item and then salvage it?

Craft then salvage is all we have.

If you Google, you find one guy who crafts without gems and gets some better stuff when salvaging, while I noticed the gem I used was sometimes inherited by the second part in the list and other people have posted about that too. I even get rivets out of items that aren't made with rivets, which only seems to bother ME.

Now that I have a bunch of Flawless parts I'm hoping that I find something else that makes crafted items better since my chakrams top-out at like 189 which isn't all THAT impressive. Maybe there are bigger rings on the second continent...

My understanding is you may only be able to get the upper end crafting components in the end game zones, where the level range goes up to 40.

I made it to the second continent today, and I did notice an upswing in the quality of the armor, but so far no improved weapons. The good news: at Level 36 I can beat down most everybody anyway...

Finished the game, done with almost every quest, just trying to polish off the troph...errr...achievements...yeah, that's it.

Good game. Now trying to get a Flawless Damaging Rivet/Binding/Wrap to drop so I can dupe and become a complete god. Current equipment has me up to about 2k for an average hit from my chakrams.

Maybe I'm the last to notice this, but I'm getting "free gem removal" if I put my Vigorous Talisman with 3 gems into the Stash, leave the building, then go back to get it. The gems are gone and I have to replace them. I'm swimming in shards but I really don't want to HAVE to keep replacing them if an item isn't currently what I want to carry around with me.

I finally counted all my stuff and realized that I have more than my limit so the things I can't remove must NOT count against me, so another thing I didn't get wouldn't surprise me...

Both of these are well noted issues. Hopefully they release a patch very soon to fix it. I know they are working like crazy to get some of these bugs fixed. Luckily, I have only noticed 1 freeze to date, and 1 item that I really cannot get rid of.

Finished the main quest, mostly to unlock the new areas. Disappointing final boss fight, wayyyy to easy, but cool graphic on the boss itself. Great that you can do new game plus.

One of my little annoyances is the HUD. I hope they address it with the patch and let us have a custom transparency slider. I tend to catch myself watching the mini map way to often and letting it take me out of the wonderful world they created. The way the camera is set it pushes your eyes up and the BIG bar on the top left blocks some of the views. At least put it down on the bottom of the screen.

How about the message that reminds you to hold the two triggers to REALLY kick butt? Can't see through it to find the butts I'm supposed to be kicking...

Go into the options and turn off tutorials to get rid of that crap. It doesn't tell you anything useful after the first hour or so anyway.

I turned it off, and always forget to use it. I might have to turn it back on to just remind me someone needs reckoned!

Still haven't found a Master/Flawless Damaging Rivet/Binding/Wrap so I went ahead and created a full set of equipment/weapons with Greater ones(19% Damage).

It's awesome. Ebony Flame Sceptre w/ Flame Rod doing 12k damage per hit. The only thing that isn't one hit is a Prismere Troll.
