21:9 Ratio Front Projectors - when??

So Vizio is announcing 21:9 ratio flat screen TVs at CES, when are the 21:9 ratio front projectors coming?

The Vizios have 2560 x 1080 native resolution which sounds really good to me.

Aren't front projectors a more logical choice for 21:9 ratio than flat screen TVs due to ease of coming up with masking system for side bars when watching 16:9 programming? I'm sure people like me who have Constant Image Height (CIH) setups would love such a projector vs. doing the zoom/vertical lens shift trick to switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1 ratio programming and losing resolution and lumens when watching 2.35:1 programming.

As expensive as anamorphic lenses are I would think there would be some kind of a market for 21:9 projectors but maybe too niche? But not niche enough for flat screen TVs like Vizios??

I thought the same thing but when you have a native 2.35 (DPI/Avielo) at 35-45k, and you have a comparable Sony 4k at 25k, I think I can see which way the market is going...

I think the SIM2 Nero 3d 235 will be the first afforable(ish) 2.35:1 projector - its due out this year.

Vizio can release 2.35 flat screens for what I'm guessing is going to be pretty reasonable but we can't get a reasonably priced front projector that is 2.35:1 native? I find this so odd since the practicality of a front projector to do a CIH setup is so much more than a flat screen TV IMO.

The problem is that native scope projectors need bigger chips (DMDs or LCoS) with higher resolution and these are really expensive at the moment. They were until fairly recently only used in professional 4K theater projectors (i.e. +100k - if not significantly more). Also, I suppose the optics needs to be better (i.e. more expensive) to utilize the added resolution.

However, there are higher resolution HT-projectors coming to the market, for instance the new 4K Sony at a MSRP of "only" $25k. I think the chips in these will trickle down to the below 10k projectors within a year or two (in the replacement for the VW95 or the generation after that). These chips would be possible to mask off to achieve a native scope projector with 2560*1080 resolution (but would you really want to?). As for 3k projectors, I dont see it happening for several years at least.

I haven't seen the pricing of the Vizio 2.35:1 flat screens but I would highly doubt they are anywhere near the prices you're talking about despite expensive chips you're reporting.

TV's don't have these chips. They are only used in projectors, are about 0.6-1 inch big and are used to to form an image by modulating and reflecting the light that is focused on them. Also, TV's are made in much greater numbers which will significantly reduce cost.

I am definitely a potential customer of 21:9, provided they can do the upscaling well (the one thing that worries me).

I would`ve thought that the transition to 4k machines would have incorporated a move towards 21:9 as well, but I guess we`re not there yet. I hope it`s not too niche of a market moving forward to see real development.

Does anyone have a link to further info on that Sim2 - Google failed me...

Yes, thank you, I did read that one, but it was just four paragraphs of gloss from the CEDIA floor (which was four months ago). I was hoping for some additional info, such as from the manufacturer or another.

I think there is some question on if this is really a native DLP chip for that ratio...can't remember the specifics as this tech is off my radar now instead going for 4K.

Companies like DigitalProjection already have what you're looking for, but I dare say you can't afford it, as well as the other 95% of the population. They are megabucks expensive.

You might search older threads for specifics but there is a reason the SIM3 is under 20k and the DP/Avielo native 2.35 is 45k...
