Looking for a 10 - 20 band equalizer

I didn't find much searching, so:

I am looking for a 10-20 band graphic or parametric equalizer that I want to put between my preamp and amp in a Pioneer Elite Receiver.

I've seen a few, but they run $2K to $4K, commercial stuff.

I'm hearing impaired, so I need to adjust my advanced concert surround sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

Audio Control Bijou THX Home Theater EQ may work. It doesn't have as many bands as you are seeking but it does separately EQ L,C,R, two surround channels and a sub channel. It hasn't been made for a number of years but you can find them on ebay for under $300 dollars.

Also, the Audiocontrol Rialto. It uses the same controls for both the left and right channels but I actually prefered it like that. I've owned both the Bijou and Rialto. In fact, I have two Rialto's right now around here someplace. I used one of them with an OPPO 83se.

Another real good but less expensive two channel eq is the Harman Kardon EQ-8.

Rane also made a line of decent EQ's.

Yes, I also thought about those Ranes but he would need at least three of them to EQ five channels.

Thanks! That sounds a lot better than $3995.

I was looking at the one that DaveCraze posted, and it is THX and even does the surrounds.

I have a question though. Some are listed as dual mono. What is the difference between dual mono and stereo? Also, how did you look up the equalizer you found on Ebay? I have never bought from them.

I do know a guy who bought an almost new engine for a Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. It turns out that it was a scam. The seller posted a pic and sold it to the guy for $5,000. Then the seller removed all the money from (the seller's) account, and disappeared. Ebay will only refund money out of the money remaining in the seller's account, so the buyer got nothing.

$300 is not that big a risk, but $5,000 would hurt a lot. Have you heard of this kind of thing happening before? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but one more. Why do they insist on Paypal instead of credit cards. AMEX will cancel the money drawn on their card until an issue is resolved. Does Paypal somehow get around this even though the Paypal account is setup with AMEX?

Anyway, thanks for the link! The price is really great.

Simply pay for the item (via Paypal) with your credit card. You have no more exposure than any other credit card purchase.

Pioneer Elite AV receivers typically have a 9 band EQ on all channels as part of a sub-menu in the MCACC acoustic calibration options. For me it is neither obvious nor easy to find without some digging.

I had an old two-channel 31 band parametric EQ. I found it messed up the sound in three places for every bandaid it added to improve something.

My hearing deficits seem comparable to yours for the same reasons.

Some basic attention to room treatment and speaker placement coupled with the MCACC corrections has done wonders for my perception of the sound.

Tell me more about the sub menu. I do have MCACC calibration. Why show me all that stuff if I can't change it? Please.

I'd need two of the correct? I'm mainly interested in the left and right speakers.

I have a 10 year old Bijou that would probably meet your needs. If you are still looking, PM me or send me an email at berndh@mindspring.com

Best Regards,
