Sharp LC-60E79N vs LC60LE630U

Hi Guys: I am wondering if it is worth to spend extra $350 for LC60LE630U over LC-60E79N. Since both models are not on the floor so hard to compare them. Thanks for any input.

I own the LC60E79. I chose this model because it had CCFL backlighting which I believe is a better choice than LED edge lit. I have owned the set for two months and am still VERY happy with the purchase. I did see the edge lit LED on display at BB and the display model had a huge backlighting defect in one corner. From what I have read, unless it is full array LED backlighting (i.e. BEHIND the panel vs along edges), the CCFL is a more even light. So far, I agree with this.

79U is for $950 while 632 is going for $1699....both are 60 inches model

632 is $1400 and you can find it for a little less if you get creative (coupons, cashdiscover, etc...) . I believe LC60E79 has old style panel, non X-gen and it is CCFL I got 6300 for $900 on BF and returned it because it doesn't have color controls. I don't want to get here in CCFL vs LED backlight discussion but you'll be much better off with LED. Bought 60LE632 instead of 6300 and couldn't be happier.

Read what CNET has to say about LCD vs Edge Lit LED.

I care less about CNET, I own one and it works extremely well.

I would take a CCFL over edge lit LED any day of the week. Just because you own one and it works fine does not mean it is superior. The 79 also has an X-Gen panel.

+1, but i am getting the 632, only because i could not get the 79U at my store choices...

Looked at several 79u's in store as well as the 632 and they looked about the same in that environment. With the 632 you get Internet if you care about that, the bezel is smaller, it's lighter and uses less power.

I read about edge lit LCD having clouding issues, but all of my ccfl LCD's have clouding, even my Sony z5100 which was a top rated model the year it came out. Plus I see mention of clouding here at the 78/79u threads.

So other than price, why would the 79u be better? Just curious......

I don't have any clouding on 632, it had some minor clouds initially but it went away in 2 weeks by itself. 6300 that I returned had really noticeably clouds all over the screen. Saying that edge lit LED has more clouding than CCFL simply incorrect. I've read many users reviews on 632 before getting it and clouds or flashlighting is not that someone would bring up. There is lots of arguments on either side of edge lid LED vs CCFL designs but it is pretty clear that CCFL is going away soon. My neighbor has 55" CCFL Samsung with very pronounced clouds and flashlighting and screen on my 632 is crystal clear unless you want to go over it with magnifying glass. Today's panel technology still not perfect and even within same model you can't find 2 TVs performing identically. I took my chances going with 632 after being really disappointed with 6300 and can tell you this is day and night difference.
