A) Far and away the CMC2 BLOWS the 5.2 out of the water. The 5.2 is your typical two woofers on each side, with the tweeter in the center. Usually listening off-axis isn't the best. Sound was never muffled on the v5.2, but it wasn't ultra clear like the CMC2 (which I love). The CMC2 is built like a proper center should be. Some people though, like a phantom center (where you can't tell where voices are coming from).
B. The V5.2 is much better than the CC-10. Completely different technology there. The V5.2 is much crisper.
I can only give you my personal opinion. I can only tell you what
I think sounds better. You may love the Veritas more than the CM series. Someone claimed the CM series to be like a dressed up 600 series, but it's completely untrue. Listen to both and you'll say otherwise as well.
I can tell you however, that out of 10 people who came to my house to audition, 10 out of 10 liked the CM series better than the Veritas. Even a gentleman who is registered here to do ISF calibrations and is very well versed in A/Visms. He thought the CMs were incredibly natural and detailed, only lacking a little warmth. I paired the CMs with a Mcintosh amp so it took care of that problem.

Clarification: So vocals and all sounds coming from the Veritas v5.2c center speaker doesn't actually sound "confined to the speaker" or "boxy," right? If you were to close your eyes with only the center v5.2c playing, does it sound like a person is in the room with you and everything else creating a large soundstage? OR do the vocals/sound actually sound like they're coming directly from a speaker box (i.e. the CC-10 is like an extreme when everything is boxy, confined, with a small soundstage)?
When you compared the center speakers channels (B&W CMC2, Veritas v5.2c, CC-10), did you have your surrounds and two front towers OFF? That's how I did my auditions down at Best Buy's Magnolia. I wanted to see how the vocals/and sound were when only the CMC2 vs the CC-10 center speakers were on. I didn't want any influence from the front towers.
I also got a chance to audition the B&W 600 series; 684B v 683B.
(A) Preferred the 684B over the 683B. Reason: Less bass, and better vocal clarity on 684B.
(B) Preference: CM9 > 684B > 683B.
(C) Aesthetics is also a reason why I am attracted to the B&W CM line and Energy Veritas line. Black Gloss is appealing, very luxurious.

Stacked against the CM9 towers, when you say the Salks "were the best bass," do you simply mean the Salk towers offer more bass? Could the bass be toned down on the Salks? Would a quality subwoofer paired to CM9s level the playing field with respect to the "bass."
If Salk towers indeed puts out more bass than the CM9, that actually would heavily push me in the direction of the CM9s. I would actually favor the CM9s if this is the case.
Side Note: When listening to music in my vehicle, I actually turn down the 'bass' and increase the 'treble' allowing for more vocal clarity.
