Would you prefer the new Panasonic VT50 with the silver frame or a darker frame? - Page 2

There is a difference between a big, ugly bezel and one that reflects every light source that is incident to it in a hotspot. My Panasonic has a hideous bezel, but it's two different colors of matte plastic and it reflects nothing -- so it's never distracting.

Both of my pioneers have large, glossy, black bezels and reflect everything, doesn't bother me. And just looking at the pictures RandyWalters posted, looking at the tv dead center the silver "bezel" is hardly noticeable being as thin as it is. Doesn't look like that would bother me in the slightest, heck would probably be considered an improvement over what I have lol, "bezel" wise that is.

To be honest, I can't tell you how annoyed you will be by the Panasonic bezel. You can tell us when you actually see it.

What I can tell you is that it's qualitatively different than a glossy black plastic bezel. Very qualitatively different.

I don't think it's a big deal. I can't believe there's a thread about a little silver trim on around a plasma's bezel. You can't please everyone, and AVSers are great about finding things to complain about.

You mean make it like the Kuro bezel? A gigantic thick black shiny bezel? BIGGER than the VT30's black shiny bezel? That black shiny bezel was ugly with the VT30, but wouldn't be now.

Bezel people, you guys are funny! All OVER the place. LOL!

Hey I'd take that gigantic, thick shiny Kuro bezel or even the VT30 design over the 2012 one any day. The Kuros look beautiful...

I wonder if it is possible to spray paint the edge? Or use film tape to cover it? Or will some aftermarket company make a replacement

Who is the final authority at Panasonic when it comes down to bezels every year? Is he in the witness protection program?

Several years ago when i was building high performance RC sailplanes and power planes i had various rolls of adhesive pinstriping similar to the stuff you can buy at Pep Boys. The widths i had were 1/16", 1/8", 1/4" wide and i had em all in black (among other colors). I also had an 85 Golf GTI that had tacky chrome horizontal trim strips on the interior door panels that i hated so i carefully applied some of this pinstripe (in red) over the strips and it looked perfect. I also applied some to the outer edge surrounding the front grille with the same result.

With a little care it's easy to pull a length straight then lay it in place without it being crooked and i think it would work great on the front of the VT50's chrome trim.

Should be. I've always thought "bezel people" were a little overboard with concern, but the VT50 design IS really strange and poorly thought out.

I thought AVJunkie was in charge of design? Or does he just post on a forum now? 30-50 posts a day takes up a LOT of time.

Two...two bezels.... two shiny bezels around ONE TV.

Added benefits --- extra edge impact protection, noise absorbing, heat insulation, user replaceable, and not electrically conductive. All winners!

Dull black? or SHINY

Just KIDDING.......dull black.

You forgot to mention the most important aspect of plastidip, it's easily removable.

Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be easy to remove.
The Panasonic bezel edge (the shiny part) won't be removable. It's basically bonded to the TV somehow, which makes sense.

I have no idea what Plastidip is nor what kinds of tape might work out best, but I look forward to you folks figuring out that for me. I still have the VT50 on my short list, I'm just not happy about the aesthetic.

You can google it to get more info, but it's essentially rubber sprayed out of a spray paint can. You can easily peel it off later if say you want to have the tv look stock when it comes time to sell it etc.
