Sony KDL-55BX500

Never heard of that one either. They probably meant the EX500 which is the model they offer everybody. FWIW, I got the same deal and absolutely love mine. My only complaint is the inferior speakers. Everything else about it is better than the SXRD.

EDIT: Looks like BX might be the Canadian version of the EX.

From all the responses so far and your own searches, I would say the biggest difference is the 55BX500 doesn't exist. If I were you I'd ask sony to confirm that model number.

What model SXRD do you have and what price for the BX520?

FWIW, I have a Sony 50A2000 SXRD that I bought in 2006 that has convergence problems and purple haze problems. As compensation, they are offering me:

KDL46EX500 for $415 plus tax

-or-

KDL55BX520 for $575 plus tax

Others have gotten better deals, but my TV isn't unwatchable and it is over 5 years old. I think it is a fair offer.

I was originally going to go with the KDL46EX500 because it has been around longer and was reviewed more, but I decided to go with the KDL55BX520 instead. I think I'd regret going down in screen size.

I called back to see what else they could offer me and they said that those were the only two options. I also verified that these are new (not refurbished) televisions.

Note that although few, the KDL55BX520 reviews are overall very good. One guy posted a horrible review (can't remember where) that is irrelevant because he got the model number wrong (look for the comments posted under the review). He said he bought he TV two years ago which appears to be impossible as this is a 2011 model. Somebody else bashed it because it didn't have Internet apps (duh?).

The two HDMI port limit and lack of removable cord don't bother me. I essentially only have one source, which is an Internet-app Blu-Ray player. We only watch Blu-Ray movies and stream movies from Amazon and Vudu.

I have a 60A2020 with a failing optical block (green tint plus loss of contrast).

They have offered me the 55BX520 for 575 & the 60EX720 for 1375. I think I'm going to pick up a Samsung 51D490 (plasma 3D & 720p) for 650 however. I have been a Sony fanboy since I got their second CD player in 1985 but I guess I gotta just let them go.

Going from 60" to 51" might sting more than you think...!

I had a 50" SuXRD and was offered a 47 or a 55. I hesitated but finally went with the 55. I am SO glad I didn't go smaller. The 55 feels just right.

I hear the same thing from lots of other people; don't go smaller as you will most likely regret it.
