Thread Overload: NEED 32" LED 1080p for use as Monitor HELP?

Its a simple question, and there are a lot of threads here with a lot of out of date information, I'm hoping that someone here has been in the same boat and stumbled on this thread

I need:
32" LED Edge-lit 1080p LCD set that has 4:4:4 chroma sampling for sharp text as well as LOW input lag (1-2) frames as this will be a 100% computer monitor where daily surfing/emailing/gaming is done.

I'm using right now a 1080p westinghouse 37W1 which is ancient.....but it still works beautifully, its just too big and heavy. 32" is my ideal size, preferrably something with as minimal a bezel as possible.

I purchased a WESTINGHOUSE 3280, which is a 1080p LED set that I had hoped would be perfect...but sadly I could not get it to produce native 1080p input where the text was sharp, everything was blurry as tho some internal circuitry was always on trying to soften things via the HDMI ports. I'm not going back to VGA ports and the whole ghosted-text thing so forget that.

Anyways, there are just too many threads..some with INPUT LAG are not testing 32" sets, or if they are not LED sets, some info is for sets no longer produced, but its amazing to read up....the 4:4:4 chroma bug with text is also interesting to read...

I digress, AVS Forum, if you can help then please suggest I'd like to spend less than $500 but at this point performance is what counts.

My 37" CCFL Westy that I'm using now that is more than six years old is like having a gigantic laptop screen. The 32" 1080p set I plugged in this morning and ultimately had to give up, wasn't even close......everything was soft, as though the 1080p was being resampled. And yes I did try all the TV's settings, text always had white halos and the brightness seemed dynamic no matter what I tried to do. Disappoint. I was even messing around in my Nvidia settings. I tried changing the color space, I tried changing the DVI output to use the HDMI Mini output. I don't seem to have a long enough HDMI to DVI cable but I'm not sure if that would have helped

Sadly input lag was outstanding

Help? Thank you!

Nearly all TV's require tweaking in both the video card control panel and TV menu. This means you'll have similar issues with whatever TV you buy so you may as well practice with the TV you purchased. Your old Westy W1 didn't didn't have the same problem because it was a true monitor . Obviously your TV is not fully setup yet, hit up this thread, it's also a recent model Westinghouse. There are a bunch of tweaks posted in there that will help get you up and running. If one tweak doesn't work, then you try the next, and so on. And don't forget the Nvidia EDID fix, which you never mentioned.

The EDID Override fix (a.k.a., Disable HDMI Audio fix) disables the HDMI audio extensions after the initial EDID exchange takes place. I don’t know the technical details on why this fix works, it just does.

So how do you install the EDID Override fix? The Internet is littered with mini- How To’s, but the two that I’ve found to be the easiest to understand (even for those not technically savvy) are: Note1: Both walkthroughs achieve the same result, they just have different approaches. So go with whichever one you think easier. I personally prefer the currysauce way.

Note2: Both walkthroughs are written for nvidia video cards, but it’s the same for amd/ati video cards too.

^^^^ you'll probably have to perform the above EDID fix with any TV you use.

And if you do decide to switch brands/models, you may want to reconsider some of your criteria. It can be hard to find a TV that works right as a PC monitor, adding criteria like LED backlights and small bezels make it nearly impossible to find something affordable for PC use.

Here's a couple of recent threads to check out if you decide to switch, and have any patience left:

If you're looking for something cheap, but still "very good" then check out the Westinghouse VR-3225 which has noticeably better colors, contrast, blacks, and even backlighting than the LD-3280. It is not edge-lit nor have a tiny bezel though. A better but pricier candidate would be the Samsung LN-32D550 <-- this is one TV you would probably really like, great contrast/blacks, 4:4:4 chroma, 2 frames 32ms input lag (just like the Westy W1 and W3).

Good luck either way though.

Hi, thank you, I didn't realize there was something to fix the EDID....that could be it right there. I also wonder aloud if moving to a DVI to HDMI cable (of which I am sure I have one around here but can't find it at the moment) could possibly help.

I want Low Input Lag in a 32" LED set (edge lit so its thin and light)......thats my criteria. If the bezel is huge, so be it...but really thats my criteria.

I'm back to using my 37" Westy and wondering if I should just use it until one day it doesn't come on

Thank you, profusely, for the information you provided above, I really appreciate it. I may tinker some more with the Westy 32 before I disassemble and box it up.

NP at all.

A dvi-to-hdmi cable does seem to have it's "advantages" but with Nvidia the EDID fix is usually good enough to make a regular hdmi cable work.
