PC-BSD 9.0 is out

I see PC-BSD 9.0 was finally released. I have wanted to try it, but I don't have a spare HD to play with at the moment. When I get one, I will give it a go. They are supposed to have Gnome 2, KDE 4, LXDE, XFCE loaded by default.

I am writing this on PC-BSD 9.0. It isn't to bad. I have only used it briefly. Outside of a couple of little issues, it seems to work pretty good. I would say my biggest issue so far has been the look. I am not sure if it is the fonts or what, but it just doesn't look as polished as Ubuntu (well Gnome 2).

My second big issue and the one that is going to send this drive back to Ubuntu is graphics compatibility. I have it running on Nvidia right now and it seems to be ok. I couldn't get it to work with Intel. I have been wanting to use integrated graphics for some time and this will be the deal breaker for PC-BSD.

One nice thing is the ability to install multiple GUIs. It has been interesting to try out the other GUIs with just a simple log out and log in.

That can be done with most Linux distros too, I have certainly done that both with Mageia and Mandriva and Centos. I'd be very surprised if that isn't possible with Ubuntu.

Yeah I know. I have done that with Ubuntu, but it isn't an option in the install. I thought it was a nice touch to put that in the install.

I just wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu and put KDE on there as well. Still dislike the fact that I can't put anything on the desktop.
