There is no Mede8er build for the AIOS, I meant the XtrAIOS.
The Semiofficial builds are based on the official ones, so its not exactly hacked, but more of "enriched"

There is many variables involved, for example, even if you have an N adapter, your router will fall automatically to G speeds whenever a G device connect to your network (when router is operating in "mixed mode"), there is also interference with other wifi networks and other wireless devices running in the 2.4Ghz band.
I personally think a wire is the way to go, that said, there is have been several success stories regarding HD streaming on wifi, most concrete ones involved using a wire to a WIFI AP instead of using the USB wifi adapter. Using a WIFI AP you can go as fancy as you want (set up a 5.8Ghz band N network only for fastest and most reliable connection)
