Interested in this media player. Quick questions? Does it support TrueHD and DTS HD MA? Does it play dvd iso, mkv, etc.. Does it play bluray iso, mkv, m2ts, etc..?

I basically just need a media player to play my dvd and bluray rips off a external usb3 hdd or over serviio.

thanks.

main movie iso with no menu?

If it doesn't have any menus it should be fine, but I never tested that.

Answer is yes for all your questions with the following notes:
- BR ISO with Java menus only the longest track gets played (chapter marks within that track runs fine).
- ISO (DVD/BR) needs to decrypted and region unlocked while ripping (I use AnyDVDHD for that).

If you have a BD with Java menus that has a TV series, this could be problematic. A way around this is to create a separate iso for each episode within the series.

True, but you don't have to "create" new ISOs, if you are going to unpack the ISO just use the AIOS to navigate the unpacked contents and manually select the tracks you want.
For a TV series, I would use TSMuxer (freeware) to create separate BDMV folders for each episode.

I use DVD fab for my blus and DVDs. I use main movie because I don't need any extras or menus. I currently run my wd usb3 external to my Sony bdps580. I can play m2ts with my hdd but not mkv. Funny can play mkv DVD but not mkv bluray. Can't play anything over cat5e. Maybe too much bandwidth.

Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue, BR video+audio nominal rate is 48 mbps (and thats as much as it can get), this is just 6 MB/s. You should be able to sustain this rate on a 10/100 LAN (not to mention Gbit). If you have issues I would say that network wouldn't be the bottleneck.
Specs on your Sony BR-Player says "MPEG-4 AVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts) : BD/DVD/CD/USB/DLNA" so in theory your HD MKV rips should run fine.
Nonetheless, feel free to post a sample of your problematic rips and I can double check to see how they run on the AIOS.

Yes, I have been able to do what you suggest in some series such as "Homeland" but not in some others such as "Sons of Anarchy" where only the longest episode was retained.

When you unpack the ISO you will end up with a BDMV folder, from that structure you can just select and play the m2ts track you want.

So wouldn't you be better off storing the BD in so-called "folder" form in the first place rather than creating an iso and unpacking to folder form?

True, though I am just trying to suggest a workaround rather than suggest changing the way you rip your collection smile.gif
For my usage ISO is fine (single file easier for burning backups), main track is enough for my needs, when I need more I just mount the ISO on my PC (using daemon tools) and just share the mount location over the network and I can select the tracks I want from the AIOS, yes its a little unorthodox but I don't have to do it frequently, else I would just backed up in BDMV instead.

I prefer iso 'cause it's tidier.smile.gif

I have the AIOS set so subtitles are always on and it works fine. However, when I haven't completed watching a movie and come back, say a day later, the subtitles are always turned off? Any solutions to this?
Have you tried installing the latest semi-official firmware? That is the firmware I am running and subtitles are always displayed regardless of where I start or left off watching movies.

I'm running R21.
Hmm, that is strange. Maybe the format of the movie makes a difference? I have tried BDMV and iso for DVD. Both work fine.

That's an interesting idea but I don't think there is a codec for an OS other than Windows.
i only have a couple, but of 500MB+ sizes.

What about extracting a small dff file from the iso?
What would be nice is if these device manufacturers stole a page from GoogleTV....HDMI passthru, so there's no need to change inputs

The SACD-ISO doesn't even open on the AIOS.

Can you elaborate ? HDMI pass-through works just fine.
I noticed only one HDMI port on the rear. When I refer to passthru I mean like how the google TV boxes manage it. There are 2 HDMI ports, an input and an output; so in the instance I have my directtv box connected to my Visio co star and the the output from the co star goes to the TV, that way there's no need for me to switch inputs on the TV to access content from my google TV box.

Oh I see, HDMI input you mean (got confused with HDMI audio passthrough), would be a waste if they are just using this for what a $5 switch can do. A more interesting use for HDMI input port would be to allow PiP and also PVR functionality (wonder if GTV boxes can do that).

Are the Western Digital "Green" drives suitable for installation in the AIOS?
i have same question, but rephrasing the question - any considerations purchasing internal HDDs to install inside AiOS?
