Will the networks ever stop with the logos?

Has there ever been any headway on convincing the various tv networks to eliminate or at least reduce the use of their respective logos during broadcasts?

Then how would we know what network we are watching?

That's very true.

And people are attracted to bright, shinny objects. All of which lets the network/station promote itself -- constantly. Hey, it's a capitalistic system after all.

This would be a welcomed changed.

It's astounding how much worse it's getting too. No longer are they in the extreme lower right hand corner...they are inching upward and left - towards the center of the screen more. Getting even more obnoxious yet.

And they also seem more constant than in the past. IIRC, they used to flash up for a little while, then disappear for a time...now they almost seem constant depending on the channel.

Yeah that stupid crap really pisses me off. Absolutely mind-numbing idiotic redundant advertising.

psss...hey networks, lemme let you in on a secret...I ALREADY KNOW WHAT GAWD DARN CHANNEL I'M FREAKIN' WATCHING I DON'T NEED YOU TO STICK IT ON MY SCREEN AS AN IR MAGNET.

When they first started doing this and also the advertising for other shows on the network that they do (fox and FX are particularly stupid in this aspect) I was horrified. I could not believe they would superimpose CG graphics OVER MY DAMN MOVIE I was watching to advertise a stupid sitcom that you couldn't get me to watch if my life depended on it...

It's so funny too, because this just drives people away from regular TV. But these ad execs that make 6 figures know better eh? Remember when an hour long TV show gave you at least 50 minutes of content? Now it's barely 40! The rest is ads.

Factor in also the declining economy and it gets even worse. The corporate employees see profits declining so they ramp up marketing. They seem to think I will simply forget that my house is in foreclosure and I just got laid off and just go buy stuff because they have robbed me of my viewing pleasure and turned my favorite stations into marketing vehicles.

This is corporate consumerism in it's most brain-dead form so it will only get worse. I wouldn't be surprised if in another 5 to 10 years, we are watching a little 4:3 box with logos and real time advertising running 24/7 all around it on every channel.

A 1-hour TV show has been 42 minutes of content for years, the rest is ads.
And one of the reasons for the logos is for copyright protection, if the show is copied the copy has the network logo on it. And often they can tell what station it was taped from.
I agree they really suck, but I just try not to notice them. The bad ones are the moving ads for future TV shows though, I do agree.
