The boxes look good, as do the drivers. I was wondering, though, could you take some higher res pics with a non-camera phone and good lighting? I'd really like to see some sub porn, specifically the detail on the rounded corners, the triple baffle (still think double would have been plenty
), and the magnetic grills. I thought I could see a grill magnet protrusion in one of the pics, but it was unclear.
Sorry for the twenty questions, but I'm super curious about this stuff and it's hard to do it via text. Did you buy cheap pillows to stuff the cabs? If you haven't, are you going to? I was a little surprised when I didn't see it. Also, how was the Speakon connector hole sealed? I forget if you've mentioned before, but what was the total price for the two cabs from eD, and what options did you get? No shipping charges prolly helped quite a bit!
By your private comments, it seems like you're already blown away by the single UXL-18 compared to every setup you've had in the past. That's awesome! But, can it rock the 5hz stuff?
I'll definitely be taking more high res pictures this weekend, or at the latest next week. The driver really looks beautiful in the cabinets finished out like that. That carbon fiber has a cool look with how the light comes off of it.
Is that considered a triple baffle?
I can't tell anymore, I wanted a double baffle and recessed, and I got that. Works for me!
The cabinets overall look really good. I haven't gone over them really well yet though. They have 6 feet instead of 4, which was nice. I probably could have done 18-17 inch depth looking at them. The speakons are just screwed in, and I sealed them with the same stuff (window/door clear seal) I used behind the driver. The driver doesn't have a gasket you need to rip off on the rear, you just mount it straight on.
I actually won't be getting the car audio type gaskets anymore, since I'll have grills I don't see the point. And everything just looks really fit and finished as it is all put together right now. Kind of reminds me of the JTR S looking at them.
I wonder how Alex and the guys do the magnets. I wanted inset ones, which they did. There is a about a half centimeter in diameter I can see; round magnet you can palpate. They are generally flush, with a couple not really protruding but out a tiny bit...not really a big deal.
They were in the mid $300s a cab, I don't really remember the exact price.
Just from initial impressions, you can tell the driver has some authority to it. Pretty effortless pumping music and movies. Just sounds...clean. It obviously needs to be EQ'd, which I'll do once I purchase the measuring gear and get my 2nd driver when Ricci is done with it.
Thanks again Dustin for helping me load the driver. Zip Tie! Maybe I should start a "how-to" thread on it.
I probably would have forgotten to seal with the caulk since I was so excited to just get the thing fired up without him there.
