that center channel would drive me nuts, have you experimented with running a phantom center and toeing in your mains to cross just in front of the seats?

You mean nuts since I dont have an AT screen? We are planning on building or buying in 2015 so I figured I could manage with no AT until then....

Haven't tried a phantom center....

Am I thinking wrong? I have to wire for either a 2 or 8 ohm load with the dual opposed if I were to use only one fp14k, correct? And I dont think that would work....since I have 4 ohm drivers

How the dual opposed will look for placement. These are the 5.5 cubes mfw15 dual opposed from the kc gtg thread. Probably using these cabs. I'll build a new center stand by then too.

Any plans for the MFW-15's? If you want to get rid of them cheap I can make them disappear by Saturday.

what about the F20s?

Anyone on the wiring question?

That's way too tempting to use as a shop sub, but I don't think I'll have room for even one in my theater at the moment. lemme know what you want for the drivers and box.

"Am I thinking wrong? I have to wire for either a 2 or 8 ohm load with the dual opposed"

that sounds right, but it is more involved than that.

i don't know much about your amp, so you will have to ask others for what it can do.

what you might want to ask about, with two subs, if you can run one off each side of the amp.

with four subs, that would net 2 ohms per channel or in series/parallel 4 ohms bridged.

for that amp, i don't know how that would affect things.

you should have way more power than you need with any configuration, imho.

as for the center, i'm very sensitive to vertical distance, so it would drive me crazy, but that is just me. no hurt in experimenting even without a transparent screen.

Well, since the amp isn't stable at 2 ohms.....

After I decided to go with 18s, notnyt was helpful in helping plan. Run one driver on each channel, 2 drivers to an amp.

Have power in reserve. Don't run the amp at its limit but let it just stroll along. I liked the idea.

That is why I got the drivers in 4 ohm, though Mark will build them at 2 ohm if you wish.

Don't worry, I won't ruin your sweet drivers!

Maybe I should have taken you up on the 2 ohm....

EDIT: I wonder why my wife hasn't left me yet. I probably need to stop going to GTGs and building stuff after this for a year or 6 months or...

Subscribed! I'm considering a pair of vented UXL-18's.

Next driver arriving tomorrow.

If all goes to plan, Desertdome is going to come over and we are going to do measurements on the MFW-15 dual opposed with a stock Dayton SA1000 vs a Seaton/Sandbagger modded SA1000.

THEN, we are going to circle jig out the other pair of MFW-15 dual opposed boxes, and install the 2 UXL-18 drivers. Hook them up to the hopefully fully functioning Clone 14k, and hit the power. Take measurements if we have time on those as well.

I was going to send one of these drivers to Ricci for testing. But, looks like he has his hands full with the Q, SSD, XCON.

So, I plan to send one to him when I order my next pair at the end of March when Mark has supplies.

I want to make sure I get my 4 drivers before Josh posts his raving review of how amazing the UXL-18s are!

If I end up sending one driver to Ricci when I order the other pair towards the end of March, if it would make sense, once I get the driver back from Josh, to put that driver in a sonosub type of application with a plate amp?

I could set this along the right wall in my basement HT, with the dual opposed on each side of center between the center and mains on each side.

That may help smooth the response and get one of the 5 drivers in a different plane.

The only thing would be figuring out what is coming from the AVR..the Onkyo NR1007 has Sub1 and Sub 2....what do you do about Sub 3? I would be using 3 different amps. 2 clones and 1 plate or another clone for the sonosub idea.

Hmmm....just spinning ideas around.

Hop in the car and track him down; perhaps he doesn't realize how important this is

Second driver arrived....same solid packaging. Tiny cosmetic things on this driver, tiny nick on magnet and paint but otherwise looks good.

My clone amp on the other hand....wont power on. It did at the kc gtg but shut off after a second and a "click". Hasn't turned on since.
Going to test the fuse soon and have emailed sanway.

Bummer, that puts a damper on the fun weekend of testing it out.

Sucks to hear about the amp but hopefully it's an easy fix to get working 100%.

Driver looks good! A little nick here or there on the basket/motor won't affect anything.

You should have seen every mal-x I've ever ordered. They all had tons of ding and dents. What you got there is nothing, at least your basket is still in one piece lol

Oh yeah guys, not complaining about the conditions. The packaging works great. Definitely saving it

Any luck on the fuse Greg??

Btw, I was gonna order my FP14k yesterday, but Johnson emailed me saying they would be on vacation till the (30th) for the Chinese New Year.

Yeah, I kind of forgot how big of a deal that is. Desertdome is coming over with his multimeter or I'll go buy one. We can use a pair of daytons or his face amp if we need to....to just test the drivers

Glad to see the drivers finally. For some reason I never saw this thread.

They exist! Congrats man! Did anybody see the UXL measurements in the SSD thread? Ricci snuck them in and somehow no one commented. Anyone know where those measurements came from? I don't think Josh has one yet. I updated my WinISD file with the new numbers and it still looks great!
