Started putting the subs together tonight.
Instead of soldering I used those disconnect pairs
(just the connect portion) that fit onto the speakons.
Took off the old smaller adapters from 3/4 of the boxes
and put on the new, wider flange ones the guys spoke of earlier. Had to rotate a bit to cover old screw holes.
Old vs New
Grabbed 8 of those $2.50 pillows from Walmart.
2 pillows seemed about right.
I only have 2 subs put together. I used that speaker foam you get from parts express but its pretty thin so did 2 layers. I had a tiny air gap on one from a screw site that resolved by screwing down harder and the other seemed to resolve when i stood the sub in its final spot.
I have to purchase 2 more 25' HOSA cables and 2 5' HOSA cables from bhphoto and put together the junction box before I can handle any more subs.
Do you guys put some kind of caulk in the screw holes? My gasket tape is probably too thin....I'll have to see what Desertdome thinks when he comes back with my measurement gear.
Still have to take out the first driver that I sealed with silicone caulk so that will be fun...just ran out of time tonight.Also-do you guys think I should make a 1 in (from AVR/FP14k) 4 out (to subs) junction box or 2 in (from AVR/FP14k)? That is, use the Sub1 and Sub2 outs from the Onkyo NR1007 or just the Sub1?
I thought there was discussion elsewhere where the conclusion was to just use the Sub1 out. (All the subs will be under my front screen at equidistance from the first row of seats).
